esq

esq is a Vancouver based jazz quintet that was founded in 1996 by co-leaders trumpeter Kevin Elaschuk and saxophonist Dave Say. The group plays primarily their own original compositions with a focus on creativity and group interaction. Their style comprises elements of straight ahead jazz, free jazz and collective improvisation. Elaschuk and Say are joined by guitarist André Lachance, bassist Paul Rushka and drummer Stan Taylor. esq recorded their first cd Breakfast in Kamloops in 1997. Since that time they have played many venues and jazz festivals. They have been twice recorded by Canada’s national radio broadcaster the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Casual Coordinates is their newest album and was recorded live in performance at the 2007 Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
