Album Notes

Born in Uganda, Essence Kasozi has been an entertainer from a very early age. Her career began in theater as part of one of the leading theater groups in Uganda [Kayaayu]. She appeared in various plays by the group in the 1980s before leaving them and moving to England.

In England, she horned her acting & would go back to Uganda periodically to appear in various popular Ugandan TV soaps. She later decided to branch out into music releasing her debut "Obukodo" ( meanness ) in 1998. Three years later she released another World music and Afro-pop album "Ekiseera mu biseera" ( time within time ) [available here @ CDbaby].

Her new album "Ansudde eddalu" is now available in addition to the upcoming reissue of her debut album "Obukoddo".

REVIEWS

Refreshingly Different!
author: Benard Lutale
I came upon Essence's music while browsing Youtube for Ugandan artists, loved her videos and the quality is great(compared to other Ugandan music videos). When I ordered the CD I was greatly impressed, particularly she has a great musical voice and the blending of traditional/ethnic instrumental sounds with modern sounds is superb. Would recommend this for anyone who loves world music and Ugandan music. Certainly not disappointing.

Great work

Great Ugandan music. the livelier songs on this cd take you straight to Africa. Overall feel is impressive. Songs about being a Ugandan woman are particularly moving for me but no doubt have a universality that can reach other music lovers. Great work.
