During his studies at the Berklee College Of Music in Boston, guitarist Eric Essix put together this group of incredible young musicians to serve as his touring ensemble. Matt Rohde on keyboards (Maxwell, Janes Addiction, Issac Hayes, Hansen, Jennifer Lopez), Lil' John Roberts on drums (Janet Jackson, Musiq Soulchild), Melvin Butler on sax (Brian Blade Fellowship, Donald Byrd, Jimmy Smith) and Sean Michael Ray on bass (Alex Bugnon, Ronnie Laws, John Waite, Dionne Farris).

From 1992 to '94 they made two albums together and played cities all across the US. These dynamic concerts and club dates were showcases for the bands formidable chops, funky rhythms and tight ensemble playing. The group was propelled by Lil John whose mind blowing solo breaks and unique approach to drumming have become the stuff of legend. The other members provided the perfect compliment to Robert's barrage with a wide palette of colors and eclectic interpretations of Eric's arrangements and compositions.

If it's intense musicianship and powerfully expressive soloing over intelligent compostions that you crave, this double album of both live performance and studio recordings by one of the hottest funk/fusion groups of the '90's is for you!

Eric Essix and the Modern Man Recording CD is absolutely fabulous. There are so many elements amalgamated into the jazz performed on this CD. Of course, integrated in the jazz on the Eric Essix and Modern Man Records CD is a rock influence with a super strong influence of soul. All selections are marvelous.
