E-Turn (originally released as an LP in 1985) is being reissued on CD in honor of its 20th anniversary!! The CD actually looks like a small vinyl
record!! With artwork from Cal Schenkel (Frank Zappa's artist), E-Turn is both eye candy and ear candy! Plus there's 3 bonus tracks including Essra's original recording of Change of Heart before Cyndi Lauper recorded it and it became a huge hit! Essra's songs have also been recorded by Tina Turner, Peabo Bryson and Vanilla Fudge among many others. Essra was a featured singer on Schoolhouse Rock and she sang background for Jerry Garcia, Frank Zappa, Carole King and John Mellencamp. E-Turn, the name of Essra's band during the 80's, stands for Eternal Youth, Eternal Life, Eternal Truth. The band members include original SNL drummer Daoud Shaw (Van Morrison, Etta James) and bassist Steve Beskrone (Ray Charles). The music is powerful and exotic largely due to the band's imaginative arrangements, worldclass musicianship and Essra's soulful one of a kind voice. Now remastered onto CD, the music is hotter and more relevant than ever! A must have!

Great album! Excellent song writing collaboration.
author: Vinny
I agree with Hughes that it could be one of Essra's best albums. A majority of the music (except for the bonus tracks) was all written by Ronnie James (who was also in the band as the synth/guitarist and acoustic on Silver Ships). There's no doubt that Essra's vocals are outstanding. The collaboration between her lyric writing and Ronnie James' music writing, is superb!

Essra in the eighties
author: Charlie D
Essra is in pop/new wave/synth mode here, and while it's not by any means my favourite album of hers, it's catchy, engaging, and there are some very good vocal performances. Silver Ships is one of the most enjoyable songs herein.

Essra Mohawk really has something
author: Hugues
I wonder if Essra can make a bad album. I'm not especially a big fan of the eighties era, but Essra did something totally good and listenable to the very least here, and it could even be one of her very best albums, means one of those who best stand the test of time. Anything she does try or touch, it does become an Essra Mohawk thing, a supple beat, catchy and punchy, and an animal, natural, instinctive voice. Such a talent! I think every music fan should buy everything this singer songwriter puts out. She's a complete, amazing talent. I'm a fan, as for me, and proud to say so!
