THE DANCE, recorded in 1987 at Radio City Music Hall Studios, New York City, is Ellen’s first audio child and still makes a lot of people happy. The songs are fun, personal and occasionally anthemic. It was recorded with the help of some fine musicians and singers, including Shawn Colvin, Lucy Kaplansky, Rod MacDonald, David Massengill, Howie Wyeth, Frank Christian, Ann Hampton Callaway, Bill Fayne and cellist David Darling, produced by Ellen’s brother Steve Stapenhorst and engineered by Les Kahn.
Ellen has been writing songs and performing for almost four decades. From the LA coffee houses of the Sixties, to being on the road with the eclectic, original, Colorado country-rock band Tanglefoot in the Seventies, to years of work as a solo and with various wonderful musicians since then, she is a seasoned performer whose rich voice, strong guitar playing, honesty and humor leave people feeling good about themselves. Her songs come mainly from her attempts to be a decent human being in crazy times.
Ellen has two other CDs currently available: INVISIBLE THREADS and COME BACK HOME.
Ellen lives in western Colorado and plays music around the country.
