A Warm Most Spirited Glühwein ~ Eugene Ruffolo’s Fifth Masterpiece
author: Lia Kinnet-Abts, Belgium
Ruffolo’s versatile voice, guitar and personal selection of songs, Margaret Fiellin’s so well-fitting voice, Ian Melrose’s spontaneous superb guitar playing and the musical sixth sense of Pauler & Team (IADL) are creating a worldwide intimate atmosphere. This MAGNIFICENT album recorded in Germany -famous for Quality and Christmas Tradition- contains a collection of "contemporary" Christmas songs with a serene, funny or serious approach of the season, with a great diversity in genres on brilliant timeless acoustic arrangements, scintillating guitars floating on violins and/or all sorts of string and wind instruments. All songs are impressive and intriguing, ánd surprising because we hear the Totally Eugene Ruffolo = the sum of all the ER’s we know from his four albums ánd innumerous other projects. He puts his Quality Mark on his three new pearls and most of the covers of the classic and recent songs, turning many into goosebumpsing new evergreens. We hear the musical-Ruffolo in his flirtatious duet with Margaret *Baby It's Cold Outside* and in jolly titillating “Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”. We hear his soft jazzy crooner voice in “Christmas Time Is Here” and áll his NY-Voices in amazing “The Christmas Song” by the A-Cappella-One-Boy-Eugene-Ruffolo-Band. In the starry sky, painted on a warm undertone by his mesmerizing voice, flickering guitar harpsichord and twinkling bells, the *One Bright Star* gets its special brightness by the chorus’ highlights and Fiellin's ravishing harmony. Earle’s rough diamond “Nothing But A Child” is polished into a brilliant by Ruffolo’s hypnotizing timbre and expression. Partly in Italian “O Holy Night” is glorified by his ‘eunique’ voice and style on a warm modern classical arrangement built on violins. “We Three Kings” is an impressionistic hypnotizing ballad with a newsflash in the first and a visualized experimental instrumental in the second part (fascinating WWWK liaisons). Three new pearls = A warm *Here It Is Christmas* (Doc Schneider, SC) pictures the general ‘love is on the rise’ feeling. Touching is the introverted Ruffolo in his “The Sweetest Part”, precious guitar on a melancholic undertone, and a wonderful bridge in which violins and flute embrace the healing time, adieu tristesse, bonjour tristesse (cfr THE). I saved the title track for last because “Even Santa Gets The Blues” is a Eunique musical Christmas card, a mighty great petite délicatesse, a funny nonchalant little walking blues with precise phrasing on rhythmic bass and muted guitar, silver harmonica garlands and sparkling golden champagne bubbles. How can we otherwise than “Cheers!” this ambience treasure with all our friends? So, ‘pop the cork and let it flow’, over and over again! (*Youtube*) CHEERS!

This is long -awaited Christmas CD by fans of New York City singer/songwriter Eugene Ruffolo.
Known for his soulful and hearfelt music.
Ruffolo delivers this collection of holiday music with his unique musicality, adding new life to timeless classics and introducing the audience to a number of lesser known gems.
In addition, listeners will be treated to a few Ruffolo orginals that were written specifically for this project, including the whimsical title track "Even Santa Gets the Blues", and "The Sweetest Part", which picks up where Joni Mitchell's holiday classic "River" left off- a beautiful love song written against a Christmas backdrop.
A must have Cd for any holiday collection, "Even Santa gets the Blues" was recorded in Northeim Germany on Europe's most highly renowned audiophile label Stockfisch Records.

Eugene has always been a favorite artist of mine and I was glad when he sent me a x-mas album a few weeks back. And the CD is a really nice produced christmas album with tunes in a slick "westcoast-jazz" sort of costume. (the CD is a Super Audio CD btw) Imagine a mix of James Taylor, Elton John and Kenny Loggins in a mix and you have the sound of Eugene. And yes - Eugene has the same qualities as these guys. A very nice christmasalbum with Holiday classics, unknown gems, and a few of originals from him. This is a CD I warmly recommend.
