Next Big Thing Eugene is a raging, engaging and wide-ranging roster of Eugene, Oregon’s burgeoning music scene showcasing the surprising depth and diversity of the city’s music talent. Featuring the top 16 artists drawn from the Eugene Weekly’s annual songwriting competition, the tracks on NBTE run the gamut from the heartrending croon of winner Anna Gilbert’s “Room to Breathe” and the Dylanesque folk of Tyler Fortier’s “Fear of the Unknown,” to the avant neo-pop of “Addict” by Adventure Galley and the hip-hop assault of Cave Dweller’s “Reach the Top.” The CD is a sumptuous sounding sampler of style and execution, and every track is a gem.
