Album Notes

The quartet is made up of Matt Ray on piano, Matt Ulery on bass, Greg Wyser-Pratte on drums, and Eunice Yi on vocals. Ray is based in NYC, the rest of us in Chicago.

With decades of music performance under our belts, we came together to think outside the box, purposely smudging the lines between various genres, hoping to challenge the listener preconceptions of what jazz or classical or pop ought to sound like. Along the way, we roped in critically acclaimed musicians Kyle Asche (guitar) and Thad Franklin (trumpet), and the volatile combination of musicians resulted in the concoction that stands before you today. People who've had an early listen to the original music have dubbed it "Chicago-style, creative modern" jazz, but we call it a healthy dose of simple, happy pop.

Erin Laughing with a Stick

Okay I will admit I am no fan of vocal jazz but when the restaurant I was in was playing this album overhead I had to ask who it was.I couldn't get Erin and Bellevue out of my head for a week afterward. The Eunice Yi Quartet writes originals that are hard to forget, that's for sure. The music has a lot of joy to it, you just feel great when you've got in on.

Pretty Music, Great Debut

Found this album on the recommendation list of another CDBaby artist. Atlas Four is a strange and beautiful album, with great lyrics and solid musicians. More jazz than it lets on. Definitely puts you in a happy place. Anyone know when the quartet will put out a full-length?
