Album Notes

Eva Tree is a Canadian singer-songwriter who delivers soulful roots and Americana with a jazz and gospel flair. Listeners have compared her vocal style with Eva Cassidy, Shawn Colvin, and Natalie Merchant. Eva found her niche as a singer-songwriter, but also offers unique renditions and interpretations of jazz standards such as Autumn Leaves and My One and Only Love.

Her music is influenced by passionate inspiring women such as Nina Simone, Joan Armatrading, Annie Lennox, Rickie Lee Jones, and Susanne Vega; and by amazing poets such as Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Greg Brown.

Eva graduated from Selkirk College of Music as a performance major in 1994, and has studied voice with Patti Cathcart (Tuck and Patti), Leora Cashe, Pat Wright (Total Experience Gospel Choir), Dee Daniels, Laura Landsberg and Cheryl Hodge.

Eva has toured extensively throughout the USA and Canada since 1994. She has shared the stage with signed recording artist Brandi Carlile, L.A. transplant recording artist Joel Tepp (Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown, Chris Williamson), Jim Page, Kellee Bradley, Willow, Jonathan Kingham, Richard Middleton, Melissa Reaves, Frazey Ford (Be Good Tanyas), The No Shit Shirleys, Sheri Ulrich, Leora Cashe, Universal Gospel Choir, The Total Experience Gospel Choir, and many more… From 1994-7 she toured internationally with The Pink Flamingos, a 14-piece show band based in Albuquerque, NM.

She was chosen as a featured contender for the Maryhill Singer-Songwriter Competition 2003, and was a featured artist on a CD for World Harmony released 2003-2004. Embracing the local music community, Eva hosted a singer-songwriter showcase at the Hopvine Pub in 2004-2005, and has performed at numerous charity events around Seattle, establishing a strong presence on the Seattle scene.

Her debut CD, Blue Skies, received critical acclaim and has been featured on KBCS. Her second project, a collaborative effort with poet Blake Parker and producer Jude Davison, will be released in Summer 2006.

Blue Skies Soothes On A Gray Day
author: Deb Seymour
I'm listening to this CD on a rainy November Seattle Day, and Eva's smooth and soothing voice was a *perfect* antidote! This CD is a pot-pourri blend of new alt folk, rock and ideginous sound weavings that really hit the mark. Although Ms. Tree tends to favor modal and minor tunings, her songs ring positive throughout- even the sadder ones strike me as hopeful. Excellent production values- not too much reverb, good blend of the electric and acoustic instruments, In particular, the use of the piano mixed with electric guitar and native percussion instruments was enjoyable (I'm not a huge piano fan-very picky- but this album may change my mind about the instrument. Good job and thank you, Eva!

Blue Skies is a little piece of perfection

Dreams We’ve Dreamt is, what I would call, a gem. It’s uncomplicated, clear, dazzling, multifaceted, and true exactly like a diamond. Eva sings of brilliant butterflies hiding behind our eyes, which could be precious, except her voice embodies her words. That is what sets her above the crowded field of sincere singer/songwriters and makes you believe her. The lyrics of Dreams We’ve Dreamt embrace the totality of love, the sweet and the wrenching, and, due to her impeccable treatment of the subject matter, in that moment while you listen, you are able to do the same.
