Evelyn Zak is a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor who began studying yoga in 1986 at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Lenox, MA. She completed their residential yoga teacher training in 1993 and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy training in 1996. Evelyn has taught in group and private settings in the NY & NJ area, the Eastern Shore of VA, and now in Richmond. She produced an instructional cd, Yoga Primer, which was positively reviewed by Yoga Journal in 1996 and is also available through cdbaby. Her personal experience with the healing aspects of yoga and meditation fuel her passion for sharing these ancient techniques.
Evelyn has been leading classes and workshops in the practice of Yoga Nidra since learning this technique from her teacher, Swami Satyananda Saraswati. She currently leads weekly classes at Williamsville Wellness, a residential addictions treatment facility outside Richmond, VA, and also teaches privately and at the non-profit, Project Yoga Richmond.
Evelyn regularly leads a workshop called "Meet Your Feet" which she co-teaches with a reflexologist. Additional workshops have included, Yoga for Recovery (12-step), Yoga Nidra, Yin Yoga & Yoga Nidra, and Introduction to Meditation.
In addition to her yoga certifications, Evelyn is a Health/Fitness Instructor certified by the American College of Sports Medicine. She is a member of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association, International Association of Yoga Therapists, and is registered with Yoga Alliance at the ERYT-500 level.
