Evergreen perform a soft and subtle representation of Irish Music with deep and emotional Airs and rhythmic and colourful Jigs and Reels from the Highlands of the Galilee in Israel.

Gal Shahar, Michal Shahar and Eitan Hoffer come from a classical and baroque musical background and are all talented multi-instrumentalists.
Recorded with Riverdance's own Abe Doron on Bodhran and other creative Percussion.

The four of them together with new ideas and arrangements take this music form to another level.

Irish music has had a big influence in Israeli culture in the last 5 years, Evergreen has been part of that process. In this album two original Irish songs in Hebrew are included: "Riding Towards Life" and "The Mountain Song"
Travel through the green pastures of Ireland and the Galilee with traditional and modern arrangements.

2002 saw the release of Evergreen's first dynamic CD, `Riding Towards Life'. Digitally mastered in SDL Studios, one of the country's foremost sound studios, it is one of the few independently produced albums accepted for distribution by both Tower Records, Israel and MCI, one of the nation's largest independent distributors.
With twelve tracks running over 55 minutes, this debut album displays the band's versatility and instrumental virtuosity.

Expect to hear a wide range of instruments like: fiddle, flute, tin whistle, viola, guitar, lute, harpsichord, bodhran, bones, spoons, bongos, timbales, piano and singing.

    Loved this CD, had a friend listen to it and they wanted it too, so I had to order it for them. I now want their next CD entitled "The Unseen Dance". Can you get it for me?

    I absolutely love this album. This great music is of superior quality. I am amazed how Celtic music even had an influence in Israeli Music. I love playing it at work, and everybody asks me about it, and has been great for gifts. It is one of the few CD's that you can leave on playing many times continuosly with enjoyment and without geting sick of it ever, the more you play it the more you are addicted to it. I liked "The Mountain Song" and "Little Fairy" which are soft, and also the rhythmic "Morning Star". I wish it had more information about the band and each member of Evergreen, but I guess you get to know them more each time you play it again and again. It would also be better if it had which instrument was played in each song, instead of all together. Two thumbs UP!

    Michael Grosvenor Myer.... Folk record/festival/concert critic, The Guardian.... Folklore book reviewer, The Times.... Regular columnist, Folk Review.... . I particularly admired and enjoyed Michal Shachar's original compositions. Her title-track song most ingeniously melded and merged traditions to sound simultaneously Irish & Israeli. I'm still trying to puzzle out exactly how she achieved this synthesis. Was it consciously aimed for, or is it an instinctual product of both traditions co-existing in her musicality? A wonderful sound, anyhow; and a beautiful song (translation much appreciated)..... . The wonderful pipe effect (so appropriate to the - very moving - programma she gave as rationale for Between The Sounds) was very cleverly contrived with flute over guitar obbligato "drone". Beautiful accompaniment also to Shir ha-Har (Song of the Mountain). . Loved the Little Fairy slow reel; especially the fine "buildup" intro of bodhran/bodhran-guitar/bodhran-guitar-flute/full ensemble with fiddles. Liked the other instrumental sets also … the technique of playing the first reel or jig of each set slowly and then accelerating as set went on… was very effective in Morning Dew; (although … it somewhat lost its surprise element thru’ The Miller's Maggot and Morning Star). King Of The Fairies a lovely tune nevertheless, always welcome and very well played - and one which responds to the slow treatment, … I'm not sure I would actually like to try to hornpipe to it at that tempo. Greatly enjoyed Biddy Dally set of reels. . The Macedonian track, Pravoto placed in the middle provides some well-judged variation of tone. Here, the acceleration of pace from lament to lively dance works superbly, and I specially enjoyed the opening extended guitar solo. Indeed, all the instrumentation, throughout, was a joy.

    I was introduced to Evergreen's music in their concert in Haifa, Israel, and immediately decided to buy the CD. I bought it the day it hit the shelves, and think it was a very good purchase. The disc offers great sound quality, and very authentic Celtic music. The Hebrew songs add a unique touch to it. I recommend this disc to you Celtic music fans out there...
