Album Notes

What makes Evergreen Street so alive, so enjoyable, is it's sense of fun...the songs of Evergreen Street are a true reflection of these musicians' philosophy of music and life: it's supposed to be fun and funky regardless of whether you're 8 or 98.

It's a state of mind as much as it is a band - a place where McCollough and his bandmates spin whimsical flights of fancy, light-hearted music rooted in such classic singer-storytellers as Van Morrison, John Prine and Crosby, Stills and Nash. It's a place where the sun is always shining, and the music beckons you to your feet.... The band formed Little Thing Records to put out their disc, and given the appeal of the band's music, it wouldn't be surprising to see a label like Sugar Hill give the band a serious look.

Thanks for visiting my CD Baby site! Please take a look around.

I've been playing music professionally since the early 90's when I started singing at schools for children. I still do that, but since then have also spent much time performing as a solo singer-songwriter, with my band Evergreen Street, and now with another band called the LoneTones (www.thelonetones.com).

I have a masters in ethnomusicology (don't hold it against me) and teach music history at the University of Tennessee where I regularly have 400 students in my History of Rock Class, but even more enjoy my small Music of Appalachia course.

Evergreen Street is comprised of myself on guitar and lead vocals, Geol Greenlee on keyboards and vocals, and Phil Pollard on drums and vocals. Evergreen Street has been performing at clubs, parties and festivals since early 2001.

Geol Greenlee has a PhD in music composition, teaches music at Roane State Community College and is a church music director. But don't let any of that fool you. He's truly one of the loosest, most creative, versatile keyboard players you'll ever hear. He plays with Sara Schwabe and her Yankee Jass Band, Phil Pollard and the Humans, teaches piano and mixes things up wherever he goes.

Phil Pollard plays drums just about every chance he gets. He plays a myriad of styles from jazz to orchestral to avant-garde rock. He fronts his own band called Phil Pollard and the Band of Humans ("Captain Beefheart meets Captain Kangaroo"), drums with Sara Schwabe and Her Yankee Jass Band, plays for local theater productions, fills in for other bands around Knoxville and teaches drums to over 60 students. He holds a Masters degree in English Literature and teaches children at Mountain Song School.

Great songs, awesome variety. "It Is What It is" starts off the CD so well I couldn't imagine liking the next song better. But in the very next track, the lyrics of Millicent are so well-crafted I'm ready to name a child "Millicent" just as an excuse to send all my friends the CD with the birth annoucement! Add it to your cart and enjoy!! :)

This album is a very impressive collection of songs. What is awesome about it is Sean's strong folk-rock background is prominent in his songwriting, but he personalizes it with his lyrics. Favorites include the dark "Roll Like a River", the spicy "It is What It Is", the fun "And We Are Living", and the catchy "Strange Little Town". Overall, this album has a very enjoyable folk feel to it. The musicianship is also great, featuring awesome guitar solos from Sean and piano solos from Geol Greenlee. If you like folk/rock, then you'll enjoy this one. Pick it up.
