here is a review by SMASH RADIO MUSIC DIRECTOR
Eve's Burden has enough of an edge and a style that is inviting that I had to give it a go after an invite to check the group out at one of the stations I have I had to listen a few times through before giving this one the nod here at SMASH. I do like the groups unique acoustic-electric meld , they offer up a sweeping rush of energy and have some great change-ups and hooks happening. This song is well written and maintains a solid well woven tapestry of music and lyrics which is lacking in many bands in this day and age. Eve's Burdens musicians are well seasoned and it shows in this production and song crafting, yet they have a freshness that is dovetailed nicely in the music they provide THE INTRO A nice acoustic intro with just vocals and an acoustic guitar, (with a few little electronic wizardry shots that perk your ears up) and Sharon teases you up just enough to draw you in to the songs beginning with her subtle yet crafty approach. Afterwards Sharon rocks it and hammers the lyrics out . Great backing band and bgs. Also there are some nicely appointed quiet transitions that give you some time to digest the song and again here it comes at you, that great hook line Sharon lays it out loud and clear "There's a letter hanging on my door" and away she goes letting it all hang out , Yes she has the chops to make an impact here at IAC and anywhere else, looking for more soon SMASH OUT.

Eve's Burden - The Black Letter

Eve's Burden hails from The United States, which they are taking by storm. Followed closely by the rest of the world. This Band is hard hitting and knows what we like. Sharon Jordan's strong vocal style and presentation brings back memories of the great Ladies of Rock. She is a stand up rocker with a booming voice, yet, this petite sexy lady at the same time. She will blow you away with her talent! What range!!
Lyrics on Eve's Burden - The Black Letter is exemplary! With lines that will touch your own experiences and trigger feelings you thought were gone. With Jerry exploding on guitar, Joseph on bass, JT on drums and Andrew on keyboards, this band cannot miss!! It is exceptional when the Band is as good as the lead vocalist and vice versa. This group moves like silk from track to track. Rocking it Old School but dragging you into 2009 willingly. They even do justice to a little rap!! I cannot say enough about the skill and talent of this entire Band. Eve's Burden is the Rock of the future. Sharon Jordan Is magnificent!! 14 Tracks of pure Rapture wrapped up in a nice little package called Eve's Burden.

The Three tracks I had to narrow it down to were:

Candy Girl Track 4 - A song about the guy wanting a girl who doesn’t deserve him. Sung from the prospective of the girl who should have been with him. "Candy Girl with lips so sweet and heart so cruel". Just about says it all. Sharon belts this song out from her toes but manages to keep it soft and accessible at the same time. Brilliant!! Fantastic Electric Guitar work on this track. The lyrics are to the point and very well written. Bravo!!
Love Keeps Me Hanging On - This track shows the versatility of Eve's Burden. Done in a rock and pop mix. Very dance worthy. Great vocals once again from Sharon Jordan. Instrumentation is exceptional, bringing to the fore front the sheer talent of these musicians. Lyrics once again hit hard and to the point. The song starts off nice and soft with Sharon's voice as it builds to a crescendo. Jerry Leal compliments Sharon's work with breakaway electric guitar solo making this track brilliant.

Like A Wildcat - Fantastic song!! Starts off with a little rap then moves into a full bodied , hard hitting rock tune bringing back the big booming 80's rock style. What a magnificent mix of styles! Instrumentation is beyond good making a new division in the term, bloody fantastic!! "My Story Will Be Told”. If you have a rockers soul, then this is the album for you!!! Eve's Burden does justice and homage to "Rock", the way rock was meant to be performed.

Eve's Burden - The Black letter, 14 tracks, 14 roads to pure heaven. Get it, play it, Rock it!!

Yours in the music

An Impressive Alternative Rock Debut CD
“The Black Letter” is the impressive alternative rock debut from California outfit Eve's Burden. This album is fueled by two things: firstly, an incredibly powerful vocal performance highlighted by an astounding vocal range from Sharon “Phox” Jordan, with a vocal quality like a favorable combination of Sheryl Crow, Kelly Clarkson, Amy Winehouse and Melissa Etheridge. and secondly, the awesome guitar licks throughout the album crafted by Jerry “The Matrix” Leal. There is something severely '80s about the overall sound, with keyboard, bass, and drums rounding out the backing instrumentation and creating a solid and full rock sound. The songs are quite lyrical, melodic, and catchy, with introspective and sociological lyrics. “The Black Letter” is well-produced and ready for extensive radio play. “Candy Girl” is filled with catchy lyrics, nice guitar work, and hand claps to boot. “The Fame Game” is a song about the life of a breakthrough musician that features memorable lyrics, a catchy chorus, a harmonica, and more great guitar work. “Euphoria” closes the album out with a '70s rock inspired guitar riff and a stellar vocal performance from the “Phox.” “The Black Letter” is a solid debut from an up-and-coming group that you'll be sure to hear much more from in the years to come. Fans of powerful female vocals and guitar-driven alternative rock, check out Eve's Burden.
