SCHNITTKE: Concerto Grosso No. 1 for 2 violins, harpsichord, prepared piano & strings • Cello Concerto No. 1
Latvian-born violinist Gidon Kremer has been instrumental in introducing composers of the former Soviet Union such as Pärt, Gubaidulina, Schnittke and Denisov to Western audiences. Yuri Bashmet is one of the leading violists in the world, and a conductor as well. He was a close associate of Alfred Schnittke and gave the world premiere of his Viola Concerto in 1986. Natalia Gutman is one of today's foremost cellists. An associate of both Rostropovich and Richter, she has performed with most of the world's great orchestras.
Recordings made in 1988 and 1986 respectively.
