While working in Seattle with bass player Rick Leppanen a few years ago, I was introduced to his group Pearl Django and the music of guitarist Django Reinhardt. I fell in love with the instrumentation and the Gypsy influence in the music, and although I realized The Hot Club genre was primarily an instrumental one, I was dying to sing with them. Thankfully, Pearl Django gave me a chance, as did Robb Henry and the Parisota Hot Club and Sam Miltich's group, Clearwater Hot Club. Before long, I was in Hot Club Heaven! Hence this CD.
"With her own delicious sense of swing, silken
phrasing and sense of adventure, Evingson really
nails Django's spirit on 'Gypsy', rummaging
through his songbook (often with added lyrics) and
other tunes that fit the mood, from Ellington's
'Caravan' to Sting's 'Until' ...." - Rick Mason, City Pages

Hot! Jazz!
author: Gary Bastoky
I've listened to this CD more times than I can remember. I love it. I saw Connie in Seattle at Jazz Alley after this CD came out, playing with Pearl Django, and it should have been recorded live -- they were great together. She had an excellent producer for this CD, for a change, that was really able to help her shine! Hot stuff! Hot Jazz!

This particular CD is my favorite, though my boss, to whom I gave both this and Hot Club of Sweden, prefers the later. Regardless, I am such a fan of this silky unique jazz music, it is my preferred hostess gift that is always a hit. I heard her on KKJZ in LA - once- and wrote her name down. It's hard to find something so beautiful and unique in this town. So thank you, Connie. I'll keep buying more. Please keep recording.

If Reinhardt and Grapelli could have chosen someone to vocalize their music they'd have chosen Connie Evingson.
Very easy on the ears and the eyes!

Not the regular type of jazz
author: Ram
The first time I heard Connie Evingson's music was while listening to The Spirit of Jazz (ITunes) in a late night study session. I have to say that her jazz sound rivals that of Diana Krall. Evingson's style has a lot of energy and you can't help but snap your fingers or tap your foot.
