Album Notes

Someone once said if they had one night left on earth, they'd spend it with deerfrance's music. John Cale wrote a song for her to sing. Listen to her voice on her song 'Goldmine.' You'll see why.

During the New Wave era, deerfrance not only worked the door at CBGBs but did the booking at Max's in New York City. She gave The B-52s and Devo their first NYC gig and later introduced Devo to Brian Eno. She has always been known for her quick wit and infectious sense of humour.

deerfrance has performed live with David Bowie at Carnegie Hall, toured for two years with John Cale and sang with Tom Verlaine. She formed Floor Kiss with Michael Paumgharden which was deemed one of the best bands of the late 1980's by the New York Times. She was also in The Blue Picts and the Lowriders, and in 2000 she formed Extra Virgin Mary with Paul Chapin.

April 2004, Dee Pop (Bush Tetras) rejoins the band.

Her biggest influences:
Aretha Franklin and Captain Beefheart

Songs to heal your spirit
author: Felice
This is a great cd. extra virgin mary write wonderfully soulful and memorable songs that i go back to again and again. singer deerfrance has a great voice. one of my favorite things about the songs is the interesting way they use the bass, it states an unconventional melody and the song unfolds around it. Check out Goldmine, Art or Miss, Jesus Man and Oven Mitts for the downlow on the many faces of love. Check out the Beefheartesque Tramp or the stunning imagery of Dollface. Rock out on Shine. Heck, rock out on all of it. A classic.
