"Best of Milwaukee 2004"--Shepherd Express
author: Jim Adashek - The Shepherd Express
If you've heard jazz vocalist Ellen Winters sing, you know she brims with enthusiasm and charm. Winters is talented enough to have performed at the Montreux and North Sea jazz festivals while still in college. Regardless of the venue, you know Winters brings a fresh interpretation to jazz standards each time she sings. (Jim Adashek)

From the very beginning, I was charmed by her high, clear tone and the vivacity
author: Caroline Rubitsky - Owner, Caroline's Jazz Club
I've been listening to Ellen Winters sing for a year and a half at least, and from the very beginning, I was charmed by her high, clear tone, and the vivacity of her music. But nothing I've hear her sing prepared me for the music she does on her CD, Pure Imagination. Not the standard stuff and never, in anything, resembling the usual way. The tracks illustrate a wide range of not just emotion, but rather attitudes - perspectives on love and life, sung by someone who sounds as though she identifies with every nuance. All in all, a very romantic CD. Pure Imagination, Pure Ellen. I love, and I believe you will too!

She makes the scat singing sound relaxed and horn-like.
author: Chip McNeill - tenor saxophonist & former music director for Art
Like the groove and the sexy silkiness Ellen evokes with her phrasing; her emotion and expression comes through and she is a great scat singer too! She makes the scat singing sound relaxed and horn-like!

This is definitely one for the collection!
author: Phil Schroeder - Producer/Owner Green Street Music, San Francis
Ellen Winters is a rare find. Charming and intelligent in her delivery, she brings fresh energy to jazz singing at a time when there is very little originality left. Her voice is reminiscent of Janis Siegel (of the Manhattan Transfer) in the 1980's, full of spark and witticisms, but in Ellen's case, a bit more refined and daring. Spurred on by her capable band, she offers new life to some lovely classics, as well as to some more recent songs. This is definitely one for the collection!
