Album Notes

You\'ve heard his music . . . you\'re probably read one of his devotional messages too. But just who is Excelsius? One of the best kept secrets in Urban Gospel music.

As a minister with a passion for the street and co-chaplain of the NBA’s Houston Rockets, he’s seen and experienced first hand the effects of bondage to ungodly hip-hop. Today, he uses that same art form as a tool of righteousness.

With the release of his newest project \"Liberation\", Excelsius boldly presents the truth of scripture so that listeners receive both edification and encouragement. From a purely musical standpoint, listeners can expect diversity in the production and cohesiveness in the subject matter. Content-wise, he’s garnered a reputation for tackling those issues that many seem to avoid.

If you’re looking for hip-hop that sounds like everything else, THIS IS NOT IT! But if you can celebrate the risen Christ to thought-provoking lyricism & crisp instrumentation, then you’re ready to break free and experience \"Liberation\".

I was very pleased with this project. Since receiving my copy, it has remained in heavy rotation as I've just let the message marinate to the depths of my soul. I love it when I see growth in an artist and Excelsius has shown just that. Check out my full review of the album by visiting Trailblazinministries.com

Thorough Album Review
author: Jay Ross
Just to set the stage I love music that inspires me and feeds me. I always listen to music for several key elements: 1. The beat which helps to set the stage for the flow; 2. The flow – How clear and entertaining it is; 3. The message – How well does it encourage, challenge, solidify what I believe in. In general, Ex's flow is clear and filled with transparency and the Word *I had a dream last Night – I like the intro prayer skit – the transition into the song I was not feeling, however the message was clear *Be Set Free – The way the song comes on, the tempo and how he wraps the flow around the beat is well done. And I can’t seem to get the hook out of my mental! The word content is in your face and it gives a clear reason for what's being said. Like Mickey D’s says “I’m love'n it! *Pick up the Phone – The Sound of the Horns are arranged in such a way that it screams "don’t you hear me!" If so, pick it up! The message is clear. The only thing I would have like to hear is a light phone ringing throughout the song. *Get Focused – A lot is going on in this song. I like the use of what I can only describe as a transformer sound. I like how Ex rides the beat. This one was done well. *Change or Die – The hook is straight and to the point! I like that! *Grace that Reigns – Honestly I was not feeling the beat the first time I heard it but after focusing in on the “grace flow” the beat is in your face and right for the message which I am happy to say is unmistakable. The whole track drives the message home. I like it now! *Yes You Are – Smooth grove that works with the calm, soothing, comforting word filled flow! *FAQ’s – I like the whole concept - Just wanted it to be a little longer so I could take this track memorize it and use it to give compacted answers to common questions about the faith. The word at the end solidified the reason for the track. *Third Coast Cypha - I loved the beat, all the flows (Which I wanted more of). Only thing I did not care for all of “Kirk Franklinesque” talking by Dj D-lite. But I do hear his heart. *Addicted (interlude) This is interesting. It was a worthy attempt to make a skit that attempted to address liberation from what is now days probably a common addiction, however it did not seem to be up to the level of the music put together on this album. *The Sing-a-long Song – This track makes the album more well rounded as far as whom may listen to it! I was not feeling the “Children’s Choir”, but again the message is clear and to the point. *Out of the Closet – This track also helps to makes= the album more well rounded as far as whom may listen to it! I was not feeling the ladies singing because even though the words were supporting the message the vibe was not, but I again the message is clear and to the point. *Lead Out - The beat is just right for the message. I will say that this track, inspired, checked & encouraged me all at the same time. It inspired me to establish a written list of who my Timothy’s are and who my Paul’s are – so that I can be sure to strengthen those relationships and make sure per scriptural example I am doing the same for others. *Shame on Me – The message was very personal to me and it is very relatable. *The Word – Got it loud and Clear! *See ya Later (hopefully) - Sums up extremely well the purpose of this entire “audio word”. This is a great outro! Overall, I liked the C.D. I could give it a few people I can think of right now!
