Album Notes

Exile is a side project from Erik Wøllo, one of Norways most famous electronic music composers and performers. Dimension D explores new territories with a unique blend of fierce techno and ambient electronic sound.

Released in May 1997.

Review by Jon Aanensen, May 2007:

"1996 was a year with no Origo Sound releases, but the following year they were seriously back with no less than 5 new CDs, all of them between march and june. Three of these were part of the so-called Future Proof series, with the tag line "music that stands the test of time". The first disc was the project Exile with the album Dimension D. Behind Exile was no other than electronic music legend Erik Wøllo, and the CD contains material written in his Wintergarden studio in 1995 and 1996.

So, how does Dimension D sound 10 years after its release? Well, through 14 tracks Wøllo dives deep into different parts of ambient electronic music, and first track is Urban Zoo. As the title implies, animal sounds are important in the song. Timewind is groovebased but fades away before it takes off, while Innovation is dominated by powerful beats and a typical Wøllo melody line in the background. Episode II is kind of an interlude which would have succeeded as film music, with its clever breathing effects. Moon Away is in the standard techno vein before a sample occurs - some listeners may recognize this sample from the song Dream Lines from Wøllo's 2001 album Wind Journey. I Will Be There is full of effects, and Gentle Silence is pleasant with its soft beats. The techno based Outskirts clocks in at 8 minutes, and is the album's longest track. Title track Dimension D contains cool and funky rhythms but does not have a melodic development.

According to Wøllo himself it was a refreshing experience to hide between a pseudonym on this album. While he recorded Dimension D he also worked on the Transit album, released in 1996 on his own label Monumental Records. It is reason to believe that the Exile project was launched so that the composer could use some of the material which didn't make it to Transit. The material on Transit is quite a lot stronger than the stuff which occured on Dimension D. But nevertheless, Origo Sound's Future Proof project was launched. Next up is Current."
