The concept of Exodus began in 1994 with Curtis Gardner, the founding member. At the time, the group was organized as a quartet with members of the North Stelton AME Church's Inspirational Male Chorus. Over a period of time, the group changed from one set of members to another until finally, in 1995, it settled into a trio of voices that became the foundation for Exodus. The trio consisted of Curtis Gardner, Marvin Stone, and Willie Walker.
By 1996 the trio mastered their harmonies and added one member, Anthony Shields, to sing lead and create a quartet. A year later, Rex Hush was asked to sit in for a performance and made such a big impression that he became a permanent fixture. In 1998 the newly formed quintet was searching for a more dynamic and well rounded sound and Mike Griffith was brought on to lend his "booming" bass voice to the ministry.
Also in 1998, the group decided to change their name to Exodus 4:12 coinciding with their first recording, "New Life", written by Paul Kyser. This unique group of God-filled men continued to mold their sound and with the assistance of Paul Kyser, produced their first CD single "Father, Jesus, What's Going On" at the end of 1999.
In April of 2001, an original member, Willie Walker, relocated out of state. The remaining members belabored and prayed for guidance concerning a replacement. Soon thereafter, David Andrews was asked to join and graciously accepted the responsibility to minister through song with the group.
Exodus 4:12 continues to perform with spirit-filled harmonies that energizes faith in God and brings heart felt joy to many. They plan to continue so as the Lord leads them. For in the Old Testament, God speaks to Moses and instructs him:
"Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth,
and teach thee what thou shalt say"
