notes

In the early years, the city of Boise became a hotbed for rock music, producing such rock combos as Paul Revere and the Raiders, Dick Cates and the Chessman, The Twisters, The Cavaliers, The Hitch Hikers, and The Fabulous Chancellors.

Of these Idaho-born bands of the era, only two left a classic recorded history: Paul Revere and the Raiders and The Chancellors. Although The Chancellors never released an LP, they did release four singles on the Chandel, Echo and Dot labels. The first, "Diamond in the Sky", remained #1 for four weeks at KIDO radio in Boise.

The first stirrings of The Chancellors occurred in 1959, and from that year through 1964, the boys ascended to become one of the Northwest's most popular groups. Then The Chancellors moved to Pocatello and underwent several changes, including the addition of Monte Sexton. The group moved back to Boise but disbanded in the early 1970's.

However, after nearly two decades of oblivion, the group was resurrected by Ross Miller and former Chancellor, Lou Mathews. The Chancellors returned to their stature as one of Boise's most popular rock combos. The quartet recorded a complete album, largely composed by Ross Miller, and Fraternity Records released two national singles: "(Me and My Baby Like) Old Songs" and the tongue-in-cheek "I'm Cool".

The Chancellors of the early 1990's was a septet which featured three lead singers. This group produced two CD's: Timeless in 1995 and Good Time Rock and Roll Vol. 1 in 1996, both on the Ars Noel label. A couple of personnel changes evolved into the very flexible sextet represented on the tracks on The Fabulous Chancellors Anthology CD. This lineup has remained intact since early 2001 and continues to rock the Northwest today.
