notes
Toby Fagenson is a singer, songwriter, parodist and instrumentalist(on six and twelve-string guitar and five-string banjo) based in New York City. He has performed in a wide variety of venues since the 1970's, ranging from the Philadelphia Folk Festival, where he was an oficial campfire song leader, to Ford's Theatre in Washington DC, at a televised anniversary progarm for the theatre in 1978. He has performed for The Folk Project of New Jersey and the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club and given several workshops for those organizations as well. Recently, Toby's played at The Peoples'Voice Cafe and the Community Cabaret in Manhattan with great success. His main influences can all be listed under the letter"S," namely; Frank Sinatra, Pete Seeger and Allan Sherman. Toby's original songs have been praised by singer-songwriters David Roth, Bob Franke, Kate Campbell and Bill Staines. They cover many styles within the folk and pop fields. He's also parodied favorite songs in those categories wittily, while respecting the original versions. Toby is aware that even great comedy can lose its interest after the element of surprise is gone and he has taken care to make"The Parody Man"enjoyable for the musicianship, as well as the humorous lyrics. In addition to his own fine vocal and guitar work,he has surrounded himself with top-notch instrumental and vocal backing to in sure this quality."The Parody Man" by Toby Fagenson is a recording that gets the ears to listening, the toes to tapping and the funny bones to tapping!
