  • must own for failure fans
    author: daniel koutouzakis

i was pretty much under the impression that we weren't going to get anything new from failure after their break up...and i'm sure i wasn't alone in that assumption...which is all the more reason why this cd/dvd package is such a pleasant surprise...it's so great to see into this mysterious and EXTREMELY underrated band...to see andrews and edwards writing and demoing tracks in a small bedroom...to see some rare live performances and videos...i am really grateful...now if only we could get these guys back together!! really a must own for failure fans...show your appreciation and own this!

  • A must!!!
author: Kevin Briggs - Guitarist for the band "Molly Gunner"

All Ken Andrews fans must add this too your collection!

  • Kick Butt!!!!
    author: Dena Adams

I bought this for my brother for Christmas and he about lost it when he opened the package - never even knew this piece existed from the band! Needless to say we are both huge Failure fans and we both very much enjoyed the CD and DVD. Now we know why the band broke up and the commentaries were great as well as watching the documentary with the commentary turned off so all detail can be picked up and heard. I was fortunate to see them several times live including a small "after party" show in Chicago with about maybe 30 or 40 people in the crowd during their Fantastic Planet tour. The best part is when they played Screen Man - OH MY GOD THAT WAS THE BEST!!! There was also someone there video taping that show - does ANYONE know if that footage is out there somewhere??? But as far as this CD/DVD goes - just buy it already!

  • Best Album!!!!!!
    author: Corkey

I'm in love with this album!!! A must have for all the fans!!!

  • AWESOME!
    author: C. Geyer

    Awesome, says it all!

  • Informative!
    author: Curtis

The DVD really does take you from the start to the end of this band, albeit with a few gaps. The commentaries of both Ken and Greg are great and they both cover very different ground in terms of what they talk about, which gives a fuller picture of the band. Many holes in my knowledge have definitely been filled in! The CD is a lot better than I expected! They are very high quality recordings indeed. If you already have the three albums then I don't think I'm going to need to persuade you to buy this DVD/CD set.

  • perfect final chapter for fans
    author: weezee

I really like a lot of the unreleased tracks, gave me a better insight into the band and their writing. The DVD is awesome...I got into Failure rather late (after fantastic planet), and this really filled in all the gaps for me. Ken's commentary is great, and Greg made me laugh out loud. good stuff!

  • This dvd is great.Ken Andrews is an amazing musician.
    author: Megan

The CD that comes with the DVD is amazing. Their demo's are great. If your a Failure fan or a Ken Andrews fan I would recomend the purchase.

  • An Absolute Masterpiece
    author: Martin Barken

I absolutely love it, you feel as if you are there during the very beginning in the summer of 1990 up until the very end in november of 1997. An absolute masterpiece. A must own for all failure fans, and fans of real music

  • A Failure Gem
    author: Failure-Golden

This is one of the best ever. The Magnified demos are actually really good and the video footage is great and probably some of the only in existence. The commentary makes it.

  • Golden
    author: Robert Russell

This CD & DVD was great , it was just like how the other people who reviewed it said it was .... And you believe what they are saying on the DVD it's not bullshit to make them sound cooler ...it was more like watching a home video then the shit on Behind the Music The demo versions where great too ...i don't think the drums are that bad ( they are Demos ) Thank you Failure

  • Delve deeper into Failure...
    author: Kyle

This collection is a MUST for all Failure fans. The DVD provides an inside look into Failure's career and the all too brief years they were a band. The documentary is excellent and it's fun to have the videos on there too. The CD is excellent as it is a great collection of unheard demos and early recordings that were previously unreleased. I couldn't be happier that this a part of my collection.

  • Definitely one for the fans
    author: Loz

There's not really anything I can add that hasn't already been said, but I'm going to anyway - if you are a fan of failure get this, it will make your life complete, it's great. Simple as that!

Failure was an AWESOME band, I still miss em. I hear this album and get so mellowed out. Highly recommended for Failure fans and those new to the band.

If you never knew about Failure before, This DVD/CD will give you all you need to know. The CD is great for the fans like myself who have been listening to Failure for a long time cuz of the unreleased songs and demos. The DVD gives a great look into the bands history and has all of there music videos. I myself can't stop watching/ listening to it!! Its a great buy!!!!!!!

  • author: Linda Camara

This Cd is super. It really rocks. Love it.

  • Thanks to Ken and Greg
    author: Tim

This CD/DVD combo is a welcomed surprise release from a band that I've loved for a long time. Previously unreleased tracks from throughout Failure's career, as well as music videos, live and studio footage complete with commentaries (the best part in my opinion). Well worth the wait.

  • Fantastic DVD!
    author: Neil

CD and DVD are both great. The commentary on the DVD is the best part of it all for me. I finally was able to learn why their run was cut short. It really really made me wish they were back together :(

  • absolutely killer!!!!!!
    author: clint woolsey

this cd/dvd is killer! the missing piece to my failure collection!

  • Great Album. Great DVD
    author: Travis

Well worth every penny if you are a true fan. If you rate it any less than 5 stars then you are not a true fan.

  • great band dvd...reasonable cd
    author: chad

unrealesed songs should have stayed unreleased..does not reflect the true brilliance of the band. The dvd is excellent and provides a glimps into the past with videos you may have missed when they were released during the bands infancy.

  • What you come to expect from Failure
    author: More then GOLDEN

What can I say that the thousands of others haven't? First off CD Baby is top of the line great service. They respond to you asap for any questions or problems you might have. The DVD/CD came in perfectly as well. While the DVD was a nice accompanyment, it was really the CD that made this the piece. Though of course having videos to Undone and Stuck on You just topped it off. The documentary, or more like show was a nice add on. And it's unfortunate no one else could have lavished their attention much like other big musicdocs (Dig!) to fully flesh out what made Ken, Greg and the rest of the group tick, but this was a nice little insight to how great they really were, and how historic their being in music really was. Highly recommended.

  • Failure have yet to dissapoint me...
    author: Chris

This CD/DVD was exceptional- not the longest DVD, but still pretty cool. I enjoy the commentaries, especially Greg Edwards because he sounds like he's falling asleep at every word. This is a must-buy for any Failure fans.

  • if your a fan youll enjoy this
    author: nickieface

ok this is definatly one of the coolest dvds ive ever had by a band. most are uninspired and dont give much incite into the band but not this one. i was surprised by how much was included into this. the cd is pretty good and the documentary is awesome. even offers incite into why the band broke up. and if you havent found out yet by all of the reviews, yes greg edwards is freakin hillarious. must own if your a big failure fan

  • Brilliant! /......what a fantastic birthday present!........................
author: Jon ( But bought by his Mum!)

EXCELLENT CD, BETTER THAN EXPECTED. LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING MORE

  • Incredible
    author: Diana

It's a dream come true when a band you've loved for years puts out new material after they've broken up. It's like eating a fantastic gourmet meal, paying the bill, then getting a free dessert. "Golden" is musically stunning, with all the wonder we've come to expect from Failure. An absolute must for any fan of well-arranged, meaningful music.

  • Good Stuff
    author: Matthew

Like everyone else I've been waiting for this to come out for a loooong time. It was worth every minute.

  • A Failure MUST have
    author: Burns

If you like Failure, you must own this. If you like Space Rock in general (Hum, Houston, Shiner, Year of the Rabbit, etc.), you MUST own this. The CD consists of mostly 4-track recordings that sound better than most bands multi-thousand budgeted studio ventures. The DVD truly fills the void that was left by Failure's retirement. The only thing better than this would be Failure's reunion.

  • I'm A Fan Now
    author: A Guy From Oregon

For most fans, this is the last thing they bought by "Failure" - for me, it's the first. I've never heard of these guys before, but browsing through CD-Baby's web site I happened upon this mind-blowing stuff. Now I'm going back through their earlier catalog, so far liking everything they've done. They deserved far more exposure than they apparently got - there's fresh melodic ideas and thoughtful lyrics here that were unique and incredible.

  • definitive failure collection buy this now
    author: thomas k.

the dvd is awesome, features great live footage, music videos, studio recording as well as commentary. the cd is has eleven unreleased songs which really show off the metamorphisis of failure and their songwriting. i was really pleased with this item. buy it now.

  • Legendary.
    author: Chad Benekos

I couldn't wait to watch this DVD.... the commentaries were really informative (Ken's) and entertaining (Gregg's)... the film of them working in the bedroom on the drum machine was classic .....also the slideshows are really cool... I especially thought the unfinished tracks from Fantastic Planet were a great touch. Cheers!*******

  • "GOLDEN".....THE WAIT WAS LONG BUT WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!
    author: shaunda b.

This is truly GOLDEN!!! I can not believe this took so long, I really pray that they reunite!!!!!!!!!

  • oh man, it feels so good
    author: Conscious Pilot

totally great piece of work for anyone interested in how Failure worked and why so many of us absolutely loved/love them. I now understand what a big role Greg played - I always thought it was much more of Ken's baby. I love Greg's commentary on the videos. brings me back to their show at knitting factory...

  • it is about time we get to see you again...
    author: the esoteric

the group has culminated an excellent collection of scenes to give fans a glimpse at what these artists are really about, and thus what helped shape the rock. wish there was more footage of the fantastic planet era, but there is enough of failure's touring lives to make up for it. the commentary is great, greg is hilarious...the cd shows a real intimate, raw naked side of their songwriting, which is appreciated.

  • fantastic cd/dvd
author: don mccoy (don from www.kenandrews.com forum)

this has been a special treat to all of us failure fans that have begged, and prayed for more from failure. i had no idea the videos were going to be on there (big plus), just wanted some live footage, but hey...maybe that will be the next dvd

  • all failure fans should have
    author: sped

great collection of goodies for a failure fan. the cd of demos and outtakes is much better than most artist's "finished" product. worth every penny.

  • author: Mase

its all about the commentaries! very imformative and inspiring.

  • finally something new from failure
    author: jesse

i enjoy the new projects from the failure members, but it was so nice to hear and see some new (old) workings from one of my favorite groups of the 90's. the dvd is awsome, and the cd offers great insight into the way the band worked. a must have!

  • This is a GEM!!
    author: Greg

This cd is a blessing for Failure fans. The songs seem to be a bit tippier and darker and the feedback is used perfectly. It makes me sad that they broke up.

  • Thanks for the story
    author: last mechanic

This dvd is a must for the Failure fanatic and a worthwhile watch for any musician in this artistic, spacey, intelligent - rock genre. For those of us who still agonize over why such an enormously talented and special band couldn't sustain its career, Ken and Greg's commentaries on the DVD provide some long-awaited answers. Homemade footage of writing, recording and touring make the experience of watching this cozy and intimate. The audio tracks are help illustrate the inner workings of one of the best writing teams in modern rock history. If you love Failure, buy it.

  • A Must Own For The True Failure Fan
    author: gharibbean

If you've been jonesing for more Failure since "Fantastic Planet" in 1996, you must have this CD/DVD compilation. While the unreleased audio is an absolute fix for the die hard fanatic, the real treasure is on the DVD. The documentary and video collection is most illuminating, but by far my favorite feature is the slideshows, which are accompanied by "work in progress" versions of album cuts from "Fantastic Planet." Absolutely awesome... a must own for the true Failure fan.

  • Everything You Wanted To Know About Failure
    author: Todd Croak-Falen

The DVD in this DVD/CD set is the real star. It chronicles the band's rise and fall. I recommend watching it all the way through once, then with Ken Andrews' excellent commentary, and then once more with Greg's commentary. When you're done with that, there are also videos for "Come Undone," "Stuck on You," and The Replicants "Destination Unknown." The sound quality is amazing, especially if you're hooked up to a good stereo or surround system.

  • "Golden" sums it up perfectly!
    author: J. Worm

Golden is a great exclamation point at the end of the Failure story. The outtakes on the CD are killer, definitely not throwaways. The documentary is interesting, but short. The commentary is great. You learn so much about the fantastic world of Failure. Plus, there is a flying cat!!!!

  • author: Stacks

The album primarily captures ken & greg's development in becoming supurb song writers in between comfort & magnified. A worthy release despite some drum machines. The dvd is beautifully assembled featuring sequential footage of the band's days which is best viewed with either ken or greg's commentary. Other features as the videos (stuck on you being one of my all time favorite videos) and slide shows set to Fantastic Planet unfinished works in progress, round out the dvd very nicely. If you already own the other Failure albums, please make this your next purchase.

  • Amaaaaazing
    author: Danielle

Worth the money. Excellent sound quality, good songs i have never heard before. If your a fan of failure i recommend you to buy this dvd. Its awesome!

  • amazing, agreed!!!
    author: carolina

    i loved it!

  • AMAZING!
    author: lila nielsen

this album is everything i thought it was going to be, but that's to be expected from my favorite band on earth.

  • I'm happy to own it.
    author: zed

A very cool object for all Failure's fans. The documentary is a little short (so frustrating), but it's good. Images are interesting, and are accompagnied by cool audio stuff (lives, demos, rehearsals...). Of course, commentarys are good too (but I'm a french, it's hard for me to understand everything without subtitles. My life is fucking interesting, isn't it ?). The CD is very cool, some of the tracks are excellent, like the acoustical Pennies or melancholy Perfect Prisons. A must have for Failure's fan (like me).

  • Another legendary piece of work from Ken Andrews
    author: Levi

For being unreleased tracks, these may be some of the most vintage and band defining ever done by Failure. If you appreciate the brilliance of Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards, Golden is going to change you as a listener as Failure's power-drill bass lines are layered with unquestionably melodic guitar and lyrical themes, a MUST own to any progressive music listener!

  • worth it for the commentaries
    author: tony

If you're as huge a failure fan as me and have been dieing for ANYTHING new from them in the past too-many-years then this CD/DVD is AWESOME! You get a pretty good short documentary with really great commentaries from both Greg and Ken-- helps you learn ALL about how they made, felt about, and were like during their career. Very informative and reassuring. I've always wanted to know the history of Fantastic Planet and the break up- now I do! BUY IT!

  • What else is there to say? It's fucking GOLDEN!
    author: JS

At long last! Failure fans across the world have been salivating over Golden since its release. Most bands that put out posthumous or previously unreleased CD's leave the listener somewhat disappointed, because there's generally a reason the songs were never released. "Golden" is the exception to the rule... This album is great. Every.single.song.on this album. is strong enough to have held it's own on Fantastic Planet. (With the exception, of course, being the novelty track 'Asshole.') The DVD fills in a lot of holes for me as far as the development of the signature Failure sound that has infected countless other bands. Thank you so fucking much Ken and CDBaby!!!

  • A MUST FOR ANY FAILURE FAN-YOU NEED THIS CD/DVD NOW!!!!
    author: Andy Prestidge LONDON UK

ONE FOR THE FAN-BOYS, MYSELF INCLUDED.THE DVD/CD IS A FITTING TRIBUTE TO ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS OF THE EARLY 90'S ALT ROCK ERA, A LOT OF CARE HAS BEEN PUT INTO THIS PROJECT & THE COMMENTARY BY KEN & GREG IS INSIGHTFUL. GREAT TO SEE FOOTAGE OF 'SCREEN MAN' & 'DAYLIGHT' MY 2 FAVOURITE FAILURE SONGS.THE UNRELEASED AUDIO CD IS ALSO A MUST FOR ANY FAILURE FAN-YOU NEED THIS CD/DVD NOW!!!!!!

  • Do i even have to say anything?
    author: Dr. Clownious

If you are considering this release you already know about Failure. If you already know about Failure why are you reading what I typed? Go buy it. What can i say. First listen i felt the music was so so. But to be honest i felt the same way about Magnified and thats my favorite CD of all time. I now love the cd to bits and pieces. The dvd was a great look behind the scenes (everything the new Nirvana wasn't). The comentary answered so many questions for me. the music speaks for itself. Buy it.

  • Terrific!!!
    author: Jeff Scholz

As one still 'mourning' the breakup of my all-time favorite band, Failure (well... its a tossup with Husker Du & Prong) I was thrilled to see the 'Golden' DVD/CD. It is AWESOME!!! Hopefully, at some point, Failure will come to their senses and get back together. Until then, this is a great way to enjoy their efforts. Also, the best damn music video I've ever seen, 'Stuck On You' is on the DVD. Lastly, if Ken Andrews reads this, we're waiting for more Failure!!!

  • A Failure obsessive's dream (I.e: Mine!)
    author: Nick from Moth

Well, as the squillion reviews above me confirm, Failure were/are the greatest at what they did/do. But this set just deepens the knowledge of what an incredible group this will always be. The CD is definitely one for the hardcore fans, very rough, with diamonds like Mange and the Fan Plan Out-take showing through. But it's the DVD that demands the attention: very classilly done; no padding, no bullshit, just a personal look at a very personal band. And Greg Edwards is a reluctant comedy genius! But, Ps: anyone else notice the severe lack of legal disclaimers or copyrighting? little bit worrying guys...

  • Something for true fans
    author: Probos

If you're a true fan of Failure you'll love this DVD/CD, especially the DVD. Great live and studio footage, interesting editing, and a look inside one of the most underrated bands of the 90's.

  • Great for failure fanz
    author: Aaron Hazel

The commentary is interesting, the videos are cool, better than i thought it would be.

  • Failure , what a vision. What a gift for all
    author: Cruz

Failure's Golden DVD, was a pleasent blast form the not so distant past. It contained images and audio I most likely would have never seen or heard from one of the best music around. Thanks a million CD BABY!

  • Cool to see inside the world of Failure. I love the video
    author: Brian

This video is like water to a thirsty bunch of failure fans. If your are a fan of Failure you must have it. If you are not a fan. You should be. It gives you a slight look inside the world of failure from comfort to Fantastic Planet Buy this and make your holiday full of failuire...... haha Brian

  • Wocka Wocka
    author: Bladrock

When I first got Ken's email announcing this CD/DVD's release I was very excited. Being a huge fan of FAILURE and musical documentaries...I was sold. Fast forward a few weeks and I have this puppy in my hands courtesy of CD Baby. I immediately popped in the documentary DVD portion and I sat and watched a bunch of images and behind the scenes footage that went nowhere. There was no narrative. Sorry but that's a tad bit disappointing. I then switched to Ken's commentary, which definitely beefed up this documentary. Ken offered some great anecdotes and whatnot about the FAILURE history. Greg's commentary was rather....hmmm let us call it bland. Maybe these 2 could've actually had their commentary together? I really think that would have worked much better and had it be part of the documentary and not just an option! The CD of demos and outtakes is great and is actually the better part of the package. I will definitely revisit the CD over and over again, the DVD might remain dormant for sometime. Still this is a must for fans and newcomers alike.

  • Greg Edwards is a joker
    author: Pat Henderson

First thing you should know is that all the people posting here for this lovely DVD and CD are fans of the band in the first place. So take all the accolades and praise with a grain of salt. That said, this is still an interesting release that has its moments. The demos are slim pickings, but some songs do stand out, like Petting the Carpet, Golden, and Mange. As well, there's a hidden song; no doubt a plea from Ken Andrews and Grew Edwards to customs agents at various global airports, or law enforcement officials in general. Aaaaaanyway, the documentary is okay. Ken and Greg include lots of footage from the early days and some rough demos of Fnatastic Planet songs to accompany the images of the recording of said album. The commentary is a must during the documentary. Ken provides the insights, while Greg recollects using some subtle humour. The same can be said of the Videos portion of the DVD. Three videos; Stuck on You, Undone, and Destination Unknown by the Replicants. The latter is incredible, both song and video. All in all, who cares what some annonymous person on the internet says. You have to do what the voices tell you to.

  • Totally impressed with the DVD and CD.
    author: David Rose

As a UK fan of Failure,The DVD had lots of footage I could never get to see otherwise. The videos were great as were the outtakes of the recording sessions. Keep doing what you do best, keep rockin'.

  • I am one happy customer
    author: ronnie dobbs

Thanks to everyone involved with Failure who made this band so great and original. This documentary is very much, well....golden. This is what every failure fan has been waitng for.

  • As expected, I was rocked!!!!!!!
author: Patrick Crough of (the Chicago 7)

Just wanted to thank Failure for giving their fans more great music to listen to. I hadn't seen the "Stuck on You" video for over ten years and it brought back a lot of memories watching it. Hope Y.O.T.R, On, and Autolux have good fortune and long lives. Thanks

  • Awesome, hot, sexy, saucy, fascinating, lovely, detailed, wonderful CD, failure

great cd and dvd, awsome commentary which gives an inside look on the making of the albums and videos. only for the true fans. this was long overdue.

  • brilliant !
    author: cluster

Great combo! DVD is stellar especially with the commentary. The cd just makes you want more! What other gems are you sitting on Ken?

  • Brutal!
    author: bombjay

Of course demo material is great, from a fans point of view. So yes,I loved all the demo stuff. The collectors will be very pleased that the demos are not a 'lift' of the demos cd thats been around for a few years but add a number of those tracks and omit some others. The Documentery; Neat.Very interesting. With Kens commentary,Brutal.Very compelling. The same way I felt when I started reading the lyrics to Fantastic Planet. The music alone was great but reading the lyrics made it intense.

  • pretty good
    author: DW

The dvd is very good; good versions of already heard songs. I was disappointed in the cd, because I remember from their old website that they had some good heavier songs which didn't make this cd.

  • Holy crap!!!!!! Finally!!!!
    author: jasontho

I can't beleive I came across this!!! Failure is/was my altime favorite band!!! i was lucky enough to see them live before I even heard of them at lalapalooza way back in the day. Ever since then they have been my favorite band. I never thought i would get anything new from them since they broke up not long after that tour!!!! FREAKIN' SWEET!

This DVD/CD package is essential for any Failure fan. I live in the UK and Failure are pretty much completely unheard of over here. This is a welcome addition to my collection and gives rare insights into one of the best rock bands ever formed.

Every Failure fan must buy this DVD and CD set, hands down

  • Yes, it's really good.
    author: glass

A must for Failure fans. Great Cd full of unreleased songs, and the DVD documentary is top notch. Commentary by both Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards provides great insight into the band, writing process, recording, personal perspectives, and Steve Albini's aptitude with meat. The "Stuck on You" music video is particularly cool. The package is every bit worth the price.

  • Essential!!!!
    author: Sugar D

This DVD/CD set is a must have. Awesome insight into the dark soundscape of the original Failure. Now they should compile a live CD with the audio that Hutch was taping during the awesome Fantastic Planet tour. Do I smell a reunion someday????!!!

  • The greatest....
    author: Josh S.

When I had first heard about this, I thought it was too good to be true. Failure is my all time favorite band. So I knew it would be my next purchase. I am not disappointed. Some of the songs I have heard before from net downloads. But for the most part I was very happy with the music. The CD hasn't left my player since its arrival. The DVD is extraordinary. I couldn't believe the footage from Albini's home and the Europe tour. I enjoyed the commentary and I never saw the "Stuck on You" video in its entirety so that was nice for me. The only thing that could have made it better would be more video footage from the FanPlan recordings, rather than just photos. But otherwise, probably the best purchase I've made all year. Thank you soooo much CDB, Ken, Greg, and anybody else who had a hand in making this collection available.

  • wow!

I was shocked when I recieved the email saying this was out! I have been a Failure fan for a long time. Fantastic Planet has had a huge impact on me, and seeing all of the things on this DVD package was like christmas in my mind. Would highly recomend this to any Failure, Year of the Rabbit, On, or Autolux fan. Thank you Ken and Greg.

Thank god for CD Baby! Could not find this anywhere in my area of FL. Arrived with the quickness in 3 days! DVD is stellar, love the Comfort recording session scenes as well as the live footage. CD is good, even the 4 track sessions which speaks volumes of this band who has never received the credit they deserve. It gives at least some closure for the hole in my heart since the breakup. This is worth every cent and will make you remember why you love them so much. I want more!!!

  • rocked me
    author: bunny

has rocked, is rocking me, and will continue to rock me for a long time.

  • freakin' great

ordered the cd/dvd and didn't have to wait long at all. a few days later it arrived and i haven't been able to stop watching/listening to it. thanks cd baby for the fast delivery and the AMAZING product. looooooooooooove it.

  • The best present I've gotten all year!!!!!
    author: Peter M frampton

Great document on the history of one of the most under-appreciated bands of the 1990's. Watch it once with no commentary. Then watch it again with Ken's thoughts. Finally, you can get Greg's take on a separate commentary track. In a word, BRILLIANT. The music videos are a nice treat, too. Destination Unknown is the coolest video EVER. Oh yeah, there's a CD as well with unreleased 4 track demos. It pretty much kicks ass as well. I could go on and on as they're one of my favorite bands ever, but I'll leave it at that and shut up now.

  • this is a great purchase for any failure fan.
    author: kevinrheault

This is a documentary DVD, with optional commentary from Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards. Watch it all three ways, you won't be diasppointed. Lots of footage from the recording of the Comfort disc, and good info about the following two records as well. What a great band, and how much of a big heart does Andrews have to put his friend's well being before his dreams of musical success. This last sentence will make sense after you see this DVD. Also, the CD it comes with has some awesome, very heavy, early Failure material that is must hear for any true fan.

  • long awaited music from failure. plus a lot of vids and info.

  • damn them.
    author: j mendicino

if you're a failure fan, just buy it. just buy the stupid dvd and cd bundle that is "golden". just... god damn them for being so friggin' good.

  • ken andrews is always putting out something cool.
    author: jason aloha

the first track on this record is addicting as hell. there are some other great songs as well. it definetely has a raw feel to it. buy this if you care about failure at all.

  • inspirational cd/dvd that gives me further insight into music that i love
    author: Mason

Im super stoked to get this CD/DVD it gives me a deeper look into the writing, recording, friendship, between band members that me and my band, continue to emulate.

  • great
    author: antti

The DVD is very well compiled. 40 minutes might seem short, but it´s stays interesting the whole time. The songs on the CD are great, I think the CD works very well as an album kinda. Highly influential! Get this if you need good music.

  • Excellent!!

This is an excellent 2 disc set and a MUST for any Failure fan. The documentary with commentaries is great. God, I miss this band!!!

A great documentary film about an amazing band. a perfect conclusion to the short-lived but very influential failure.

  • After all this time...
    author: Jesse Larick

It is wonderful to have such a unique retrospective of one of my favorite bands of all time. The DVD is amazing, and the unreleased material on the CD sounds great. Thanks Ken and Greg.

dvd was awsome, cd was awsome. totally worth every penny.

  • Once again, Failure is a big success!
    author: Kevin

If you are a Failure fan, and many of you must be, then this is a must-have. The commentary is genuine and really supplies the viewer with good insights to the band's history. The cd gives fans a Fantastic Planet out take, Wake Up, and Comfort out take, Petting the Carpet, which are great tunes. Pennies has fun lyrics and shows Ken's growth as a vocalist. I will admit that the drum machine doesn't do the Failure sound justice, but thats why this is a must-have for true fans; it shows their talent recording without live drums. Perfect Prisons is a catchy song, as well, with a total jam-rehearsal feel. I really do like the sounds of Failure so much. BUY THIS!

  • author: benny

The cd/dvd is great. Every failure fan needs this in their collection.

  • Failure: Golden - Great things come to the fans who wait.
    author: foilchewer

A collection of treasures for the new and hardcore FAILURE fans. Failure: Golden provides a glimpse into the the making of one of the most influential bands of the 1990s. I appreciate this more knowing that it's funded and assembled by Failure and not the record company(s). It's simple and to the point.

  • great compilation
    author: Dave

Just an amazing package for any fans of Failure and Ken Andrews - great to hear these outtakes, see the behind-the-scenes stuff PLUS videos - especially "STUCK ON YOU" - which I had never seen back in the day and am completely in love with now. totally worth it :)

  • Failure is fucking amazing!
    author: Scott Andrews

I am so stoked on this release. The CD is cool, if only just to have some random tracks by one of my favorite bands. The real selling point for me is the DVD. Watching the documentary and videos was rad, and all the pictures are great.

  • Outstanding
    author: Keith

I think he put allot of work in to this cd/dvd package. I liked it alot. If your a fan of failure or kenandrews in general you will love this!

  • Intelligent Rock n Roll
    author: Jacqueline

This dvd is definitely a must own for all Failure fans out there. The documentary is followed and understood..and if you were there at some of those shows you can most certainly agree that it was REAL. The commentary by Ken is patient and thorough where you can tell that Greg was draggin his feet so to speak through the process. He even apologizes for his lack of enthusiasm, (charming).. It does give you the different perspective on how the band came to be and how they functioned and of course ended. Ken is definitly the "techie" part of the band for sure.. and Greg, seems like the "artist in pain" type musician. Although I agree Failure are missed greatly now, Ken is defintely still making his mark in the music industry as a Producer/Mixer.. and of course Artist/songwriter! :)

  • Pretty Darn Good
    author: Eric

The CD and DVD are very much collector's items for fans, and is something that should not be ignored if you are a fan of the music in general, but overall some of the songs aren't there best. After all, the songs that are on here are the songs that were either demos, or didn't make the final cut for the CD's. But still, this music is lightyears ahead of most anything else from its time and even from now. I would still recommend this CD to ANYONE interested in wanting to hear some of Failure's stuff. It still rocks. hard.

  • This is going to take me to places that only Ken and Greg could dream of
    author: Rattler71082

I think that this CD/DVD is the best thing to happen since fantastic planet came out. Every fan is going to love listening to the commentary, videos, 4-track demos, and the entire DVD. I think that every person should own this to know what real music is like and where is came from. Thanks Ken and Greg

  • Closure
    author: Failure101

What to say...I mean It's Failure! If you are a fan you probably already own the Golden Package. If you are not a fan, become one!! Go purchase the three previous disks (Fantastic Planet, Magnified, and Comfort, in that order) and find out why the rest of us are so excited! Thanks Ken and Greg for this gift. Thanks for the closure and a little bit of explaination and clarification on what happened with Failure. I am at peace.

  • it is awesome
    author: jake

it was everything i hoped for. been waiting for this for years. awesome. thanks so much!

  • Failure ROCKS!
    author: Joey

This DVD/CD package really does make me miss Failure. While it does give insight into why the band broke up (and it did break up reasonably...), I still wonder where the band could have gone had they stuck together. Ken Andrews put a lot into this DVD and he really speaks to the fans out there. If you are a true Failure fan, you definitely need to get this.

  • A great addition to any Failure fan's library.
    author: K Pgg

Let's face it, the only people who are going to buy this are already big Failure fans. I think they'll be pleased. The documentary is an interesting and revealing look at the band's evolution. Plus, the commentaries by both Ken and Greg add a lot to the disc's entertainment value. The bonus CD is a nice addition, but it certainly isn't the best music Failure has ever released. If you like any of Ken or Greg's projects, Golden is worth looking into.

  • Amazing!
    author: Jon

You truly cannot call yourself a Failure fan without owning this DVD. Especially nice as an independent release. Do yourself a favor and pick it up.

  • A special place in my video heart
    author: st_chrispy

GOLDEN is a lovely little eulogy for one of the greatest bands to ever bless the world of music. Ken and Greg's commentaries are colorful and ultimately give a much-needed testament to Failure's tragic, but inevitable break up. Also, the Magnified video now occupies a special place in my video heart. Thanks guys.

  • Almost as good as a band reunion
    author: Talmanes

This album is so good I want to buy it twice. After all these years, Failure releases an album of previously unreleased tracks, all of which are album-quality. I was sort of surprised that "Dipped in the Anger," "Comfort," and "Count My Eyes" were missing from this CD--does anyone know why they were cut? The DVD makes it even better, showing this is a must-have for any true Failure fan.

  • God.. what can we add that hasn't been said above... WORTH THE WAIT!
    author: Atlanta Band OVERWHELMED

We missed the '96-'97 shows but finally met Ken Andrews in Atlanta in 2004 when playing with his project 'Year of The Rabbit'. It's hard to really know how much work goes into being a great band but this release really let's those hardcore fans see what really was going on with the best unknown band ever!

  • author: William

'Golden' made me very happy having been a long time Failure fan. I'm glad that the rough 4 track material was included, as well as random in the studio footage. Awesome...Thanks to Ken and Greg!

  • I Love these guys!
    author: stinky

It's too bad they aren't together anymore. But I'm grateful they put this out. The dialog in the documentary is fun. The videos are cool, one of them is The Replicants. The cd sounds nice and heavy. There's no one around to replace them, and this set is probably hard to find.

  • Excellant package that truly deserves your attention.
    author: Aaran Mooney

I love FAILURE. I give the DVD 4 Stars but the CD 5. What the DVD lacks in the amount of content it makes up for with entertaining and interesting commentaries that provide a rare and very personal insight into the bands history, the evolution of their distinct sound & their reasons behind their eventual break-up. The demo's, outakes & B-sides on the CD are all excellant especially 'Petting The Carpet' (why was this song not on the 'Comfort' LP Dammit!) & the video for 'Stuck On You' is genius. A greatly underrated & hugely influential band (see CAVE IN & NEWTYPE in particular ) that truly deserves your time & attention.

  • great!
    author: mood

i really like the package, it was a good idea to make this DVD, i followed it with interest. then go buy it, you need it!!

  • To learn a bit about Failure's history, get Golden
    author: Jon Gedney

If you are a big fan of Failure or Ken Andrews, Golden is a must have. The highlight was hearing about the history of the band via a commentary by the two geniuses behind the band, collaborating on something for the first time in almost 10 years. Also on the dvd is the way cool video for "Stuck on You". The cd has a bunch of demos that are really cool to listen to and a highlight of that disc is "Wake Up" and outtake from the masterpiece "Fantastic Planet". Do yourself a favor and pick this up!

  • Yeah for all the Failure I missed!
    author: ErinAF

Great CD and DVD set. Got to see all the Failure fun I missed since I got into them long after they broke up :/ Very sad when I saw some of the tour dates I missed in tiny clubs and opening for T00L. Good quality on both the CD and DVD and this is the best site to buy CDs from! :) If you are a Ken Andrews and/or Failure fan get this CD!

  • A sweet lil' package
    author: Goat

A bunch of tasty demos, a couple of outtakes, and a nice seperate documentary with commentaries by Ken and Greg...not to mention a couple of videos (even a Replicants one!)Ch-Check it out peeps!!!

  • Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    author: Chiva

It is surreal to hear the commentary from both Ken "and" Greg, it gave me goosebumps at times! I am so glad they carried that camera and aren't afraid to talk about it.....worth every penny!!

  • truly golden
    author: firefox

You won't really "get" this unless you have the complete Failure catalog. To say this set is campy is an understatement. I wish this sort of thing were available for Helmet or Hum (there is one for Far). It's a lot of money, but well worth it if you really like the band. Of course I remember being willing to pay the same amount for the promo copy of the "Stuck On You" VHS on eBay, so this is quite a bargain.

  • Brilliant!
    author: Pillowhead23

Failure is SINCERELY missed! C'mon Ken!!! YOTR and On are cool and everything, but I think it's time to get the band back together!

  • if you're a failure fan, you need this.
    author: ad

with the CD in Golden, we have great, varying sound... sounds from the comfort to fantastic planet times as well as other sounds we haven't really been exposed to with failure. my personal favorites are Petting the Carpet, Perfect Prisons and Wake Up. for the documentary on the dvd, each of the two different, seperate commentaries give the video footage a unique feel. for me, it seemed almost as if i just watched two different documentaries on failure... the different commentaries really give you different perspectives. i really don't want to reveal too much about the documentary, but the last song played on the documentary really summed it all up quite nicely. also, it was good to watch the stuck on you video on my tv instead of through lower quality video footage on my computer. its a shame the stuck on you video didn't get a great deal of play time or attention from MTV... really is a great video. if you're a failure fan, you really should check this dvd/cd set out.

  • If you don't know Failure, this wil explain them.
    author: Gern

The DVD captures the working atmospheres Failure went through all the way from when they were nobodys to S. Albini, through Magnified, on tour and well... their working atmosphere. It also gives you a glimps at how one of, if not the greatest, song duos did thier writing and how much work and effort they put in to it. If you don't know Failure, the CD included won't do them justice as it's apropriatly titled "Demo's" are proof that everything they did wasn't golden, although, everything they released from Magnified on, was!

  • Ken and Greg fucking ROCK
    author: Opiate Inc.

Saw FAILURE for the first time in the early 90's on tour with TOOL. The day after the show went out and bought "Magnified" and have bought everything they have done, this just COMPLETES it. You really should check out Ken's solo project "ON" as well, think it is for sale here too...and if you don't have YEAR OF THE RABBIT yet GET IT!!!

  • the most underrated and copied band of alt music ever!!!!!!!!
    author: Sgt.Politeness

The entire package is a MUST for all fans of this GREAT and much heard, never recognised band

  • Finally
    author: Richard Carey

Finally some new material from Failure. If you're a Failure fan, you'll love this DVD. Lots of insight into the history of the band, and some great unreleased material. The commentary from Ken and Greg is great too. My only complaint is that I wish there were more! I could watch hours and hours of this stuff.

  • Bitter with the sweet
    author: Don

One of the most revealing documentary, a must have for anyone who has ever been in a band or anyone who has followed their favorite rock band. I was very satisfied with the dvd, it answered many questions that I had but left me wanting so much to see them reform as a band. I can only hope that these two artists can continue to put out stuff that will leave me wanting more, such as the long awaited Auto-lux cd !

  • Spectacular
    author: Andy Dalton - FlagAssRadio.com

Simply AWESOME. I'm glad to see Failure recognized their legions of fans. The songs on the cd are kinda so-so in my opinion, but they sound great for being 4 track recordings. Ken Andrews has a gift, what can I say? 'Mange' is probably my favorite along with 'Don't Look Up.' The DVD simply blows me away. I have a crappy VHS copy of the Stuck on You video, and it just looks so much better on the DVD. All the studio footage is SO fun to watch. And the music that plays during the slideshow is a bunch of songs from Fantastic Planet in their early stages. It's awesome hearing how those ended up transforming into such masterpieces. All in all. BUY THIS CD/DVD. There is no way in hell you will be disappointed! -Andy Dalton -www.FlagAssRadio.com Indie Internet Radio promoting local & indie artists & musicians. -www.seeyount.com See You Next Tuesday is the band I play drums for.

  • unreleased gems and a documentary that rocks, great retrospective
    author: frank g

Failure - Golden is an apt title for this collection of rarities. None of these songs appear on Failure's studio albums, but are equally just as rockin as the rest of their catalog. Lots of hidden suprises abound! The documentary dvd is stellar, the inclusion of commentaries by both Greg and Ken reveal many behind-the-scenes details that shaped the history of Failure. A necessary addition to the collection of any die hard fans.

  • right the fuck on
    author: tr67

What a pleasant surprise to liven up a sleeping scene. "Mange" sounds straight out of the paradigm of "Magnified" and is the best music I've heard since "Hooray for Dark Matter." The commentaries on the DVD gave me the opinion that the Failure break-up wasn't a mistake, but was the eventuality of a sacrifice that had to be made for "Fantastic Planet" to happen.

  • Excellent
    author: Mathew

This is a must have for any true Failure fan!

  • ten four this is working
    author: roland bowman

ten four this is working. bout time for a total failure to dis the so called 'winners'!Failure wins again!

  • A Perfect Example of Fan Appreciation
    author: Pook - www.cdbaby.com/docdabolu

This is a perfect example of fan appreciation. This CD/DVD is basically the songwriters giving their last batch of stuff just for the fans who have obsessively rapped their heads against walls for the past 7 (or is it 6 or 8?) years since the band broke up. It's so comprehensive it's not even funny. Maybe major labels/movie distributors should take this project's example when they put together DVDs that consist of nothing more than the movie and a pile of poop they claim to be "bonus features."

  • Amazing!
    author: Liz

This CD/DVD set chronicles the life of the band Failure (1990 - 1997). The DVD documentary provides a comprehensive look at the history of Failure, highlighted by informative, funny and poignant commentary by Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards, the creative forces of the band. It features footage of recording (including home demo'ing and studio recording with Steve Albini), live concerts and touring. The band's three music videos and a wonderful slide show are also included. The CD is a revelation of demos and out takes - "Mange" is an especially stunning track. Failure-Golden is highly recommended!

  • Couldn't be more satisfied.
    author: Zac Cortez

I'm very happy with this CD/DVD set. I have been looking forward to Failure releasing a DVD. // "Sometimes, you rock so hard, you're in slow motion; other times, you get stabbed in the face by a pair of breasts." - Greg Edwards // This is a fine example of slow motion rocking.

  • Best Band EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    author: Gonzo

I'm sure that it isn't the most epic of the Failure works, But it is a must buy for the true Failure Fan!!!

  • Good insight into the band
    author: Scooter

This is a well put together package, even if it is a little overpriced. I found the commentaries to be the most valuable portion. There was a lot of insight into the inner workings of the band and the creative process in general. The unreleased tracks are cool for the big fan or completists, but they remained unreleased for a reason.

  • great!
    author: Antti

Goddammit, it has to be good. I just listened to a clip of the first song...I´m so happy I got to order this. I live in Finland so it tended to be hard. Thanks!

  • A Valuable Addition to the Legacy of Failure
    author: CHINASKI (www.cdbaby.com/cd/chinaski)

This terrific collection of demos and b-sides is a wonderful addition to the Failure pantheon. Failure was arguably the best grunge/alt-metal band to come out of the 90s and their album Magnified is a certified classic. Ken Andrews reveals more of his dark genious on this CD -- if you're a fan of Failure you NEED TO OWN THIS.

  • cmon, its failure!!!!
