“the family hootenanny” compilation offers surprises and fun for the whole family!
Detroit rockers show their childish side isn’t reserved for après-dusk!
DETROIT—Mastered by musician Dave Feeny at his award winning Tempermill Studio, “the family hootenanny” compilation CD is Detroit’s magical antidote to peppy children’s albums. The collection presents original rock, pop and punk tunes as well as retooled traditional songs for young and old alike.
The album displays local talent such as Dan John Miller of Blanche, Loretta Lucas and the Larkspurs, The Go and one-man UK hit, Jawbone.
In addition to new songs by old talent, the album features the impressive debut of Chloe Crawford—who at age 5 upstages the adults and gives Sid Vicious a run for his money. Chloe, lead singer for Bambi, belts “A Peacock Day” with her two younger sisters on backup and dad (Jimmy Ohio of Misty and The Ultimate Lovers) on guitar.
The CD marks the culmination of several years of occasional Family Hootenanny concerts in which Detroit rockers let their hair down (or rather, pulled it from their faces) to entertain the next generation of malcontents. The coffee house concert series was started by musical types with kids who wanted to introduce young-uns to kick ass live music.
Album highlights include the hilarious “Playpen,” by Miller in which he sings, “I wonder if my momma even loves me/ in the pen you don’t get nothin’ to eat,” and “Baby Duck”, by The Come Ons, in which crooner Deanne Iovan implores kids to avoid the dangerous streets laden with careening SUV drivers on cell phones.
The album includes a bonus story, “Chicken and Pig,” and also features:
Billy West, Sunshine Doray, Salt Miners, American Mars, Mydols, The Candy Band, Happy Tom, and The Katzenjammer Kids.

The Detroit Family Hootenany

Love the CD. Only 1 problem...after listening to the CD my 3 & 4 year old grandkids have to make "Popsicle Soup" when they're at Gram's. And we have to do the "knock,knock...who's there...Banana...Banana who?...and then knock,knock...who's there...Orange..Orange who?...Orange you glad I didn't say Banana!" They think this is hysterical! I finally found a kid CD that I like to listen to. I'm an old Detroit hootenany participant from back in the 60's. Went around the area to Hootenanies with The Villagers - a high school Kingston Trio type group.
