From Mar 1985 until he passed away Aug 9 2003 I was Gregory Hines' guitarist, friend, brother and his student in humility. After he passed, I was COMPLETELY distraught. My Son, Max, suggested I fine another big star to play for. For me, after Gregory, there is no one. Max said I should do my own CD. I've always composed, arranged and had bands in the past. I balked. Max said he'd produce/engineer and talked me into doing it. I'm an old school guitarist/compser/arranger and refused to use MACHINES. Gregory's band, The Family. And my friend, drummer, Ken Spider-Web Rice blessed me by playing on this CD. I'm and artist/painter and did ALL the art work and painting for the CD jacket. Hence the title. "Family Portrait."
