Francesca Ancarola is a singer-songwriter born and raised in Chile with a wide range of influences. Her musical language combines latin-american folk rhythms and melodies with structures and colors of jazz. Milton Nascimento, Violeta Parra, VÃctor Jara, Silvio RodrÃguez, Joni Mitchell, Tonhino Horta, Chico Buarque and Susana Baca's work are some of her main influences. Her solo discography includes Que el canto tiene sentido (1999, nominated for the Altazor award), Pasaje de ida y vuelta (2000, Altazor jazz/alternative 2001 award, APES award), Jardines Humanos (2002), Sons of the same Sun (2004, Petroglyph Records debut album) and recently Contigo Aprendà (2005, dedicated to the bolero). She has sung with Julieta Venegas, Pedro Aznar, Luis Salinas, Quilapayún, Gondwana and Joe Vasconcellos, among others. Her band has included many world-class musicians including Antonio Restucci, Juan Antonio Sánchez, Misha Platigorsky, Pedro Giraudo,
Elizabeth Morris, Carlos Aguirre, José Seves and Federico Dannemann.
She is currently finishing her sixth album, a tribute dedicated to the chilean singer-songwriter VÃctor Jara, with the help of a chilean government grant. Francesca has toured in Chile, Spain, Brazil and Argentina. In all these countries, she has been very well received by critics and audiences.
