Album Notes

This is music that is honest and true and comes straight from the heart. On stage Faris strums on his guitar, wails on the harmonica, and sings.

This album has a mellow acoustic feel. It's the perfect record to listen to while working creatively, taking a drive, or relaxing after a busy day. Faris has a unique and original voice. His baritone has been compared to Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash and even Lou Reed. The lyrics have been described as "sardonic and laconic" by the ATHENS news.

With its short and sweet playing time of around twenty-six minutes, this album leaves the listener satisfied and wanting more. Faris is finished with his second album and it will be available on Cdbaby! Faris is now recording his third album at his home studio in Cleveland. With a touring schedule of Colleges, Coffehouses, and Clubs in Ohio... Faris is an Artist to keep your eye on.

Faris plays all the instruments on this album except the bass guitar and cello. The album opens with "Through the Woods" which features a haunting and beautiful Cello that compliments the lyrics about a Blacksmith who heats a Globe of Blood on his anvil. The second song, "States Remain" urges the listener to draw an outline of identity around the energy of life. Next is "Looking Glass." Lewis Carol's influence is in this song. One reviewer described this song as "Creative and Unique... Wilco like lead over Endless Summer like guitar... Vocals and Melody remind me of Jim Morrison." With "Priest" the album moves onto one of the darker songs. The priest in the cold church is like a spider weaving a web. Features a great bass line by Andie. "Land of Sleep" features an uptempo rocking sound. "Judge Erwitts" is about reason as a judge... "Er" as in error and "witts" as in reason. "Golden String" asks if I gave you the end of a golden string, would you wind it into a ball? "Jonah" is about a state... a false prophet. A lot of people have identified this one as one of their favorites on the album. The uptempo "Liberty" picks up the pace near the end. Liberty walks with her sister in chains. The album ends with the Cradle song "Voice of a Friend" which was inspired by living with a pregnant friend.

this album is short and sweet. lyrically resplendent, and the slender simplicity of the acoustic music and melodies remind of a happy leonard cohen... beautiful. everyone should by this album!
