Farpoint creates a unique blend of progressive rock, folk rock, Celtic, new age, and more, and mixes it all into one cohesive but ever-changing whole.

notes

Farpoint was formed in 1997 in South Carolina, USA. From playing local club gigs to festivals and fundraisers, Farpoint has continued to "do their own thing," ignoring current musical trends and creating their own unique brand of melodic progressive rock.

With FROM DREAMING TO DREAMING, Farpoint's third studio album, the band reaches a new level of maturity in songwriting, performance and production. With a subtle nod to Yes and a not-so-subtle nod to Pink Floyd, the songs take elements of progressive rock, hard rock, folk, Celtic, bluegrass, new-age and more and blend them into one smooth cohesive whole. While the energy level is higher than on previous Farpoint records, the occasional folky ballad and spacey synth excursion create a nice sense of stylistic variety.

  • Dreaming to Dreaming is very dreamy!
    author: R.Davey

This prog band is very laid back. Has a mellow, folky, celtic feel about it. Both singers, don't have strong voices but seem to suite the "dreamy" feel to the cd. Sometimes I was waiting for something to happen, but it is the laid back sound that is happening. If you want a mellow, laid back, yet still prog cd this is the one for you.

  • A clean, haunting sound you can't help but love

As a guest speaker at the Trinoc con convention this year, I was unfortunate enough to have a presentation to give during the Farpoint concert. Fortunately I WAS close enough to hear occasional bits and pieces that tempted me to end early and adjourn to the concert. I resolved to pick up at least one of their CDs and chose from Dreaming to Dreaming. Wow! What a great choice! As I had business in North Carolina after the conference I was able to listen to this CD while driving the rental car. This album has a strong ROCK style and the music is fantastic. The vocals are tight and not overpowered by the strong instrumental accompaniment. Needless to say, I didn't need any other CD or to search the radio waves for tunes, this album had it all. There is the Lively vocals of Autumn Sky and Universal Light. Exactly what you'd expect, tight and clean. Then there is the haunting Nothing at All, a ballad feel with lyrics we've all felt. I was struck by the variety of songs this album contains. So many modern groups and singers have one style and you end up with 10 similar sounding songs. If you like ROCK, you can't go wrong with From Dreaming To Dreaming. UNFORTUNATELY... I grabbed the CD case forgetting I had yet to remove the CD from the player... someone is probably enjoying my CD even as we speak! I was scheduled to return to London within the week so a replacement seemed out of the question. There IS a happy ending however. I enjoyed this CD so much that I sprung for the overnight delivery and the nice people at CDBABY delivered! Thanks! So recommendation for this album is, go for it!

  • Farpoint: From Dreaming To Dreaming
    author: Sea of tranquility.

Farpoint has released their third CD, with last Novembers From Dreaming To Dreaming. This is melodic progressive rock in the art-folk vein. Imagine Iona on steroids. Songs “Universal Light” and “Crying In The Rain” have great jazz-fusion bass (Frank Tyson) lines running through the driving upbeat playing by the band, very reminiscent of Sweetbottom or Nice Beaver. Others like “Autumn Sky” and “O Lost” have the roots rock mysticism that haunts you. Farpoint hail from South Carolina, but have a more European sound. From Dreaming To Dreaming is filled with many styles from rock to folk to a touch of metal, but the music never gets too hard. This is very accessible music. Even the 10+ minute epic “Sojurn” is easy to get into, and although it transitions and builds to an amazing peak, you are surprised that so much time has lapsed. I have listened to this CD driving around town all week and the trip is just suddenly over, I am so engrossed in the tunes. Farpoint’s songwriting is not verbose, the musicianship doesn’t blow you away, although I enjoy Rick Walker’s drumming. The vocals are warm and soothing and also fit each song nicely. This is not a technical CD, but like Fritz Doddy’s new CD, just plain fun to listen to. From Dreaming To Dreaming is highly recommended for fans of Nice Beaver and Mostly Autumn, as well as anyone who enjoys melody contained within an awesome rhythm section. Track Listing 1. Lux Universum Part. 1 (0:59) 2. Autumn Sky (6:38) 3. Anything At All (6:16) 4. Universal Light (4:28) 5. Here And Now (5:13) 6. Crying In The Rain (7:11) 7. Sojurn (10:22) 8. Nothing At All (5:59) 9. O Lost (5:58) 10. Ashley’s Song (Sail On) (7:24) 11. Lux Universum Part 2 (4:14) Added: May 6th 2005 Reviewer: Steve Ambrosius Score: Related Link: Farpoint

  • Fantastic, very Symphonic, a new way in Progressive Rock
author: Progressive Rock & Progressive Metal - E- Zine

The third album by the South Carolina-based band Farpoint, is unique in every sense of the word, demonstrate their love and talent to play a special Progressive Rock, with careful and very well elaborated compositions, where we can hear influences of the best musical styles that we love, in general, combining Progressive Rock with traditions of the North American Folk, including some touchs of the classic Art Rock. Farpoint takes us into a very strong sound and a very good production, the musicianship of each of the band members and their joint performance as well, are amazingly strong and creative, each musical section has something different and sophisticated to offer in terms of instruments into the sounds, from the instrumental effects and mainly vocal melodies. We can consider that Farpoint are a fantastic example of a new generation of Progressive Rock, where their music is pure and magic for fans of the traditional bands as: "Yes", "Pink Floyd", "Strawbs", "The Moody Blues" and "Alan Parsons", also in the line of the "Mostly Autumn" and "Karnataka". Brilliant and an indispensable work, highly recommendable... (By Carlos Vaz)

  • Very emotionally, mentally and spiritually stimulating from beginning to end.
    author: Karen Wooley

From Dreaming to Dreaming by Farpoint is uniquely captivating music. It reaches deeper in substance than most music you hear today. It perfectly captures all of the many facets of human emotion, both secular and spiritual, fantasy and reality. It combines them all into something very enjoyable and satisfying for those who love emotional stimulation and variety in music. It keeps your interest from beginning to end and leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking depth in music. A great listen!
