This is a high quality studio album, that was basically played live with the band in the booth with very few overdubs or production. Because so many of the tracks are first takes, the sound is very fresh and alive.
Debra Farris' music shoots straight from the heart; a carefully crafted alchemic, rhythmic, harmonic, feel-good blend of blues/funk/folk/rock.
Debra's music has a broad appeal, not just for her versatility in playing a multitude of styles - she sings universal themes.
Her voice has a mystical way of drawing you in. The best description we've heard yet is Bonnie Raitt meets K.D. Lang in a dark alley. But there is more. There is Debra's spark.
She has been described as having versatility like James Taylor, the depth of Eva Cassidy. People have told her that her voice sometimes sounds like Michelle Shocked.
Debra prides herself in crafting each song so that it is rhythmically and technically interesting, exciting and pleasing to the ear.
Debra's lyrics are inspired by her life experiences and carry messages of love and unity in the human condition.
Debra would describe herself as a 'sound alchemist'. She is sensitive to the blending of notes and the spaces between notes. She is a performer that truly gives to the audience.
It is obvious that Debra loves music and loves to perform. Whether she is playing solo, or with her band, she is present, alive, joyful, and intense. She connects with the crowd as if they were in her living room. She simply lights up on stage.
Notable at a Debra Farris concert is everyone having a good time whether they are dancing, tapping their toes, nodding heads or just smiling.
There is something about Debra's songs that make you feel good.
"This isn't just another tight club band; Debra Farris stands out as a singer-songwriter of extraordinary talent and originality. Her lyrics move people. Although these songs come out of her own experience, these are universal themes.
Debra Farris is singing about my life, your life and how we all feel - Debra Farris is best known for her powerful, high-energy songs, but this versatile artist has a special gift delivering a sensitive and beautiful ballad such as 'The Way'".
Maybe you have to have had a broken heart to really appreciate Debra's music. Her songs are not sad, but come from a deep place, even when they are light-hearted. Her songs are much more then just fun or easy listening for the ears. It is an experience of the heart...From hers to anybody else's open to the experience. I feel her music as much as I hear it, and it always makes me feel good ."
"Debra Farris is an extremely gifted alchemist, stirring blues, rock and soulful rhythms into magical compilations. Dynamic, uplifting and unforgettable, her music stirs up so many facets of human emotion. One to watch closely for certain."

A real mixture of fun, soul-searching, jump-up-and-dance, curl-up-with-a-cup-of-something-warm kind of CD. Each song comes straight from her heart to yours!

When I buy CDs, I like to get at least 1 over the top song that I can not stop hitting the repeat button on. Comes the Dawn is a CD that I fell completely in love with. The Way, such a simple title, but is such a sweet ballad about friendship. Love's Reprise, I must have played it 20 to 30 times the day I bought the CD. Comes the Dawn, well, let's just say that IS the jewel of the album. You can feel the love that was poured into this album.

this cd is raw. i dig the melodic vocals and blues-like rhythms. i would equate her to a mix of kd lang and melissa ethridge. good for all sexualities.
