Album Notes

Christine Fawson began studying trumpet at age 10 but didn't discover her love for jazz and singing in particular until she was 16. Her passion led her to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston where she was the student of Phil Wilson and Tiger Okoshi.

Christine has performed at numerous jazz festivals around the world including the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival in Sydney, Australia, the International Association for Jazz Educators Convention in Long Beach, California and the Tri-C Jazz Festival in Cleveland, Ohio. She has performed with such artists as Christian McBride, Joe Lovano and Paquito D'Rivera.

Since graduating from Berklee in 2002 Christine has joined the Boston based jazz vocal quartet Syncopation and is working as a freelance trumpet player and vocalist. Her most recent project is the release of her first CD, Happy Talk which features the arrangements of Phil Wilson.

Don't Fence Her In
author: David Thorne Scott

Christine is a rare talent. A singer and trumpet player of the highest order, with such a sense of improvisatory playfulness and fun that you just smile the whole time you're being dazzled. The charts from bebop legend Phil Wilson are equally delightful and set off Christine's voice and piano just right. A treat of a recording. Great song choices too. Don't Fence Christine In!

Having played with Christine in both large and small ensembles, it was great to hear here in these fully developed and craftily arranged gems by Phil Wilson. Outstanding contributions from all the musicians involved and a very professional and sonically excellent package. Christine thanks for bringing the sunshine into my musical world.

I found out about this CD completely by accident, when I wasn't shopping for any CDs in particular. I'm so happy to have bought it, because the arrangements are so smooth and such fun to listen to!
