Album Notes

From bluesy rifts, upbeat tempos, to the complex compositions of the great prog-rockers, there is a little bit of everything in the music of the Feast.

It is clear that there is a scholastic and disciplined approach to their music writing, yet the energy of the band suggests they are fun loving as well as hard working. (Okieart)

The 8 song CD "Strength" by "The Feast" delivers a great mix of sensible rock music with additive flavors of pop, blues, jazz, and even more. The spectacular sound is created through Todd Kessner, acoustic guitar, lead vocals, Roger Cormier, lead & rhythm guitars, vocals, steel, organ, mandolin, Sean Martin, guitar, vocals, and Mark Freeland, drums, percussion. The songs off the CD were recorded at both Chameleon West Studio, and Underground studios. The CD is a great product thanks to the expertise of Marc Hunt, who is known for his exceptional engineering capabilities. Taking a sneak peak at the first song "Wide Eyes" we found that the acoustic intro was the highlight of this track. I liked the voicing on it as it reminded me of a "Joe Cocker" tune, but with a softer edge. Rick liked the jazzy/bluesy fusion combination it offers, and even took a second listen to it because of the phenomenal acoustic guitar parts. The second song "New Orleans" gets our vote for being a fun, upbeat fiesta song. A song that anyone would love. It has a perfect balance of instruments and vocals and is also well arranged. The 3rd song was more like a "jam session" and it seemed as something was missing, so we moved ahead to see what more the CD had to offer. "Strength" is the 4th song with a strong punch line. it got our attention because it has great hooks and a fluid an flowing rhythm. The track keeps your attention with a "Santana" sort of feeling to it. The guitar parts, especially the lead, are influential and respectable. I believe this song could get plenty of air play. "rejuvenate" takes on the form of a poppy song with a great bluesy reflection in the lead. Both Rick and I are astonished at the guitar work on each and every song. Throughout the CD it is evident that there is 25 years of guitar experience behind it. We find a great message in the 7th song "Too Much Trouble". It had a common concept worth noting with the words "Hey mama, look at me, I'm not the son you wanted me to be". This song was like a pizza with all the toppings. It has "Barenaked Ladies" written all over it. We both liked the drums and backing vocals. It had that special kind of pizzazz and, convincingly our favorite track. The last song " Time Still Waits" takes you back in time as being a nostalgic 70' s type. The organ parts of the song really "make it happen". The chemistry of instruments on this song prove the diversity and dimension of the musicians. The overall rating of this CD is a "must hear". The mix and sound quality is impressive. Ask Santa Claus for it as a stocking item. You will enjoy listening to it. You can find more about "Strength" by "The Feast" at www.thefeast.biz

I've gotta say, the guitar work on this CD is supreme. I got a chance to see these guys live just to make sure it was really them playing it. Not only was it them, but they far exceeded my expectations. It's a very good listen.

The Feast has been gaining a steady following over the last few months. With a buzz about some great shows at The Tudor Lounge, Broadway Joe’s and The 2004 Buffalo Music Awards The Feast has released an eight song CD titled Strength. Recorded at Robbie Goo’s Chameleonwest Studios with the esteemed Marc Hunt at the board, the band (Todd Kessner on lead vocals and acoustic guitars, Roger Cormier on guitars and an assortment of other instruments, Jason Durys on bass, Sean Martin on guitars and Mark Freeland as the drum kit operator) has a sound most closely associated with bands such as Dave Matthews, Blues Traveler and Counting Crows. Highlights include the lead off track “Wide Eyes” the party vibe feel of “New Orleans” and the guitar driven “Parting @ Denny’s”. Other standouts include the title track “Strength” and “Rejuvenate”.
