notes

With a high profile appearance at Austin, TX's world class music conference SXSW, and securing the opening slot on the national Grey Eye Glances tour, Feathermerchants also announced the release of a multimedia EP. Featuring six tracks and an enhanced content video for their compelling song, "Dan," STREET THEATER reimagines several songs from FEATHERMERCHANTS' critically successful 2003 album Unarmed Against The Dark and their 2000 debut album Feathermerchants. Working with noted mixologist Nick Forte (Schematic Records), a digital visionary who plays a laptop like a Stradivarius, the band had Forte take several takes on the most avant garde track off of Unarmed Against the Dark, Ursuline . The results were both danceable and wonderfully chaotic. Also on the EP are a Shannon Kennedy vocal performance of Farmers Night Out(Veru did the original vocals on the album version) as well as producer Jim Chapdelaines reworked and remixed versions of Best Regards and Ludlow Street, from their debut album. Ludlow Street is already getting early airplay with WBZC from DJ Gene Godfrey who has described it as his "new favorite track."

With their prestigious showcase at SXSW (March 18, 8:00 p.m., at the Copper Tank at 6th and Trinity), which is universally acknowledged as the most important annual music conference in the U.S., FEATHERMERCHANTS will debut their striking Dream Rock for a live audience. Sure to be a key gig at the event, the show will also offer a preview of the band's upcoming national tour with Grey Eye Glances, which kicks off later this spring.

Formed in 1998 by Veru, FEATHERMERCHANTS has evolved into a masterful outfit that puts both the dreaminess and the rock into Veru's richly imagistic songwriting. Along with Shannon Kennedy, the band includes guitarist/producer Jim Chapdelaine, who won an Emmy for scoring a PBS documentary on the making of Amistad; drummer Jon Peckman; and bassist Jay Wiggins. After an experimental debut album for Veru's own Innocent 12th St. Records, FEATHERMERCHANTS released Unarmed Against The Dark, which secured national distribution from Ryko and was hailed as "certain to impress" by CMJ New Music Report and called "a perfect recipe for Triple A" by the influential Friday Morning Quarterback. FEATHERMERCHANTS were even said to "create a new realization in one's head" by TeenZone in South Africa, where the band has recently earned coverage in several major men's magazine considerable radio airplay, and further distribution that has led to its inclusion as the only international artist on the new SL Magazine compilation CD.
