Fell Boyzs perform original material, fusing jazz, funk, soul, and progressive rock.
The Wisconsin-based band the Fell Boyzs have their roots in 1990, when teenage brothers Kyle and Zach Fell put together Antenna Head, a blues and rock band performing Pearl Jam, Neil Young, and Stevie Ray Vaughan covers. Their dad Tom, a powerhouse drummer, was giving informal guidance, while sitting in now and then. They formalized the arrangement when Dad joined the group and they changed its name to August. When Tom’s brother Billy brought his guitar into the fold, they became the Fell Boyzs, and were on their way to becoming one of Wisconsin’s most acclaimed bands.
With Kyle on bass and lead vocals, Zach on saxophone and drums, Tom on drums, guitar, and harmony vocals, and Billy on guitar, the Fell Boyzs have a natural connection that no amount of rehearsing could bring. The unspoken communication between the family members leads to a nearly indefinable meshing of sound when they’re on stage or in the recording studio.
Their fans and reviewers have said their original pieces contain “smooth, driving rhythms”, “excellent instrumentation”, and “cool harmonizing vocals”, and their work is likened to Chick Corea, Santana, Yellow Jackets, and Dire Straits. Their musical influences reflect the contemporary styles of Steely Dan, Dave Matthews, and Tower of Power.
In 2005, Fell Boyzs was selected out of 10,000 other artists to have their song, Samba de Beef, used in an independent film, Plastic. (www.plasticthemovie.com).
Nominated for 4 WAMIs (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) Awards:
