There is a sweet musical marriage between vocalist Margaret Fennell and guitarist John Baboian that few duos ever achieve.
It is an intimacy that is as comfortable as a favorite armchair and as recognizable as a familiar step on a back porch.
The strength of this CD is Margaret's sincerity in everything she sings. No matter what the lyric, you believe her. You have the feeling that she has lived some of these songs.
Her vocal style is straight-ahead: no gimmicks or tricks, just the song- clear, honest.
It is a wildly refreshing approach to the over-produced, electronically-edited vocals of many of today's recording artists.
John Baboian demonstrates on this CD that he is truly a consummate accompanist with many gifts.
His performance soars from fiery solos that combine technical proficiency and solid timing to romantic, sultry, seductive interludes.
When an artist takes the risk of recording a CD like this-when the ear can only be drawn to two musical sounds-voice and guitar-it is no mistake that Margaret has teamed with an artist of this caliber.
When John isn't in a recording studio or out on tour with his busy performing career, he can be found sharing his skill and knowledge with students at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
The music selected for this CD has a wide range, from the wonderful standards of Speak Low, Nice and Easy, and Sentimental Journey to Jobim's How Insensitive.
Margaret's interpretations of For All We Know, Every Time We Say Goodbye, and I'll Be Seeing You are particularly heartfelt and moving.
Margaret's influences include Broadway, Jazz, and Folk - at times you may hear all of them, but with her relaxed style and wonderful sound you will always hear Margaret, pure and simple.

I received the CD in excellent condition, and am really enjoying the musical artistry of Magaret Fennell. I especially appreciate the fact that I can understand each and every word of her lyrics.
Bravo also to her accompianist John Baboian.
