ABOUT "FERGUS McCORMICK":

"Fergus' self-titled CD features ten very different tracks of music that will appeal to any music lover, regardless of a preference in genre. His amazing story-telling lyrics, crisp guitar playing, along with other ingredients provide a great CD."
-Kenneth Monez, Just Another Song

"I heard about Fergus McCormick from a friend in New York, and bought the CD on his recommendation. I haven't enjoyed an album like this in years. A soothing, emotional record that makes you reflect on life and love, and smile in a melancholy sort of way. I can't stop playing it..."
-Dan McCarron

MORE ABOUT "FERGUS McCORMICK":

New York-based singer-songwriter Fergus McCormick brings memorable melodies and wry, trenchant lyrics to his ballads.

His debut album, "Fergus McCormick", opens with "Roman Candle," the story of a cuckold who cannot but continue to love his newly wedded Italian wife, and a testament to the fleeting, irresistible nature of women.

McCormick's characters yearn for their women, as in "Yvonne" where the narrator outwardly scorns the object of his desire, while inwardly confessing his adoration for her at the end of the song.

"Blue Karmann Ghia" is a conversation between a skeptic and a believer in love. Meanwhile, another type of song emerges in "Extremadura Love" and "Mombasa in the Rain", which depict both emotional release and psychological conflict in exotic locales.

This album forms the bedrock of Fergus' style, which is embellished on his second release, "Jumping the Gun".

  • Well crafted songs, interesting and intelligent music
    author: Steve H.

I bought this CD because I drive a blue Karmann Ghia (see track 7), but was pleasantly surprised by the musical craftsmanship displayed by Fergus McCormick in both composition and performance. The lyrics convey a series of strong images, but one can also enjoy this music as "background" if not listened to with care. I wish I had a copy of this on cassette tape, because I have a cassette tape player in my blue Karmann Ghia.

  • Wonderful.

I’m rarely one to evangelize about a CD or musician, but in this case, I’ve got to make an exception. I caught Fergus in a live performance recently and was immediately impressed with both his melodies and lyrics. This debut CD captures what I liked best about him – wonderful and unexpected turns of phrase within tunes you’ll find yourself humming the next day. It’s a rare combination of talents, and this CD is absolutely worth adding to your collection. When's the next one coming out????

  • Fergus McCormick will stand the test of time
    author: John Pollack

I love this album. Not only do Fergus McCormick's songs catch my ear, they stay there; I find myself listening to them over and over again. Ballads with lilt and spirit, they draw me into both story and music at once. Blue Karmann Ghia deserves serious air-time.

  • An outstanding debut from a talented singer-songwriter
    author: Brandt Goldstein

Listen to Fergus McCormick's debut CD now and you'll be more than pleasantly surprised. You'll be wowed. This guy belongs on the radio, but unfortunately these days there's little room for intelligent acoustic music. Better than either Jack Johnson or John Mayer, McCormick works in the singer-songwriter tradition but with a take all his own. His hooks, especially on Roman Candle and Extremadura Love, are sublime. His lyrics are fresh and evocative (that word gets overused, but it fits here: you'll feel like you're drifting around Europe with him, from the heat of the Spanish countryside to the drizzle of London). And he sings with a warmth and conviction that will have his voice echoing in your mind. The world's filled with overproduced garbage from talentless people, but with musicians like Fergus McCormick around, I'm convinced popular music can still inspire the soul. Bravo.

  • A cleansing breath of musicianship and lyricism
    author: Jeremy Manjorin

Fergus McCormick's CD is an anomaly in this DIY, throw-it-up-and-see-if-it-sticks day and age. Its a cleansing breath of musicianship and lyricism coupled with deceptively complex song structures. His subject matter is unique, talking of travels and shared memories and painting pictures with his words... which is a blessing to discover in the overprocessed, dumbed-down world of benign commercial radio we are bullied into. The vocals do each track justice, never overpowering, subtle enough to set the mood, evocative enough to get the point across. I have no doubt this CD will age with it's listeners, and will refuse to be treated as a minor musical distraction...and the words will continue to act as vessels of introspection for each privileged soul who hears them.
