By the time he was twelve, Dodd Ferrelle already knew that he wanted to play the guitar. By age 16, he was playing in multiple bands and eventually began writing his own music. Dodd formed Me'anMills with Jon Mills and toured the Southeast bar circuit for a number of years. Eventually, Dodd relocated to Athens, Georgia from Savannah and started a band called Rags.

Ferrelle left Rags in 1998 to pursue his own musical vision drawing inspiration from his musical heroes like Paul Westerberg, the Waterboys' Mike Scott, and the Beatles. Ferrelle's solo debut, A Carriage on the Hill, was released in early 2001 and features a host of local über-musicians (Members of Pylon, Asa Nisi Masa, and Sugar, among others). Former Sugar bassist and renowned producer David Barbe produced and played bass and other instruments on A Carriage on The Hill.

To capture the record's appeal live and to take the rock quotient a bit further, Ferrelle formed The Tin-Foil Stars. Guitarist Tim Adams (ex-Snail) began collaborating with Dodd on new material. Tim brought in his former bass player Michelle McClure who in turn recruited Dan Orchick (ex-Deacon Brody), her band mate from The Dictatortots.

The Tinfoil Stars, as well as A Carriage on the Hill, have received a great deal of attention. The single "Strung Out (like the Lights at Christmastime)" won a BMI Songwriting Award. Dodd and the Stars have received hometown honors on multiple occasions, including three Athens Music Award nominations (Album of the Year, Roots Rock Band of the Year, Singer/Songwriter of the Year).

Always Almost There, the next offering from Dodd Ferrelle & the Tinfoil Stars, will be released in the fall of 2002. David Barbe was brought in again to produce and perform on the new CD. Local buzz for the record is already in full swing. The track "Too Bad You" was featured on the AthFest 2002 Compilation CD, and the band debuted several other tracks at an AthFest 2002 mainstage performance.
