If Bill Frisell, Keith Jarrett, and the Rolling Stones formed a think tank, their brilliant solution to vapid music would be the Fiction Junkies. Recently showcased in Musicfest Northwest at Portland's premier jazz club, Jimmy Mak's, the Fiction Junkies are gaining momentum in sharing their art-- their own twist on modern jazz expression. The group features Whitman graduate Drew Shoals, who Willamette Week recently wrote could "possibly be the most talented young drummer in the Northwest." After studying at Berklee College of Music, guitarist Dan Duval has made waves in the Portland music scene working with jazz greats Darrell Grant, Dan Balmer, Alan Jones, Glen Moore, and John Stowell. Bassist Eric Gruber provides a rock solid acoustic pulse and captivating, narrative solos to many tunes. Writer and educator Matt Weiers rounds out the group on keyboard, offering refreshing, original compositions with stabbing and flowing harmonic shadows.

Looking for a shot of new and wonderful talent to enliven your listening experience? I formally suggest the Fiction Junkies. I hardcore dig the song MILK and anyway it reminds me of listening to radiohead but getting tripped out because they are playing it all by hand without machines...to hell with that synthesized stuff they're hardcore'd. This is music to get lost in the woods to. if i had to describe everything in one word it would be...'sweet'. ima boost me myself one real quick.
