I Get the Best of You

by Field & James

A taste of sassy original songs drawing from Midwestern country and small-town living. A “his and her” of bluesy vocals and clever guitar lines mixed with warm sing-along melodies that move from country-tinged folk to haunting harmonies.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The music of Field & James defines the genre of today’s singer/songwriter. Their songs represent the diverse crossroad of American musical avenues that includes jazz, country, rock, folk and much more. The uniqueness of their music is well represented on I Get The Best Of You, their new 14-song cd recorded live in the studio.

The unlikely pairing of singer/pianist Field Stark and singer/guitarist James Eisele banters between sparse musical arrangements that would be at home under the low lights of any intimate club setting or swinging in a crowded and rowdy Saturday night dance hall. The seemingly polar opposites combine their distinctive voices over the magical sound of James’ 12-guitar and Field’s expressive piano. The two complement each other like a musical whirlwind.

James is a seasoned artist with a diverse artistic range. A self-taught musician since his first guitar landed in his hands at age thirteen, his rough and ready bluesy voice is a staple in his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. He is an accomplished songwriter with three cd’s of all original material. His 3rd Degree Blues is a critically acclaimed blues cd, Coming Into a New Age is jazz based, and Perseverance is hard-driving rock.

Calling upon the haunting childhood melodies of her rural roots, Field’s smooth vocal lines and tight harmonies summon memories from her small country church to those playful, barefoot summers. Formally trained in piano then later opera, she delivers lyrics with fire and simplicity. Field has trained at noted Chicago staples such as Improv Olympic Theatre, The Annoyance Theatre and Second City. She has worked as a professional actor at Walt Disney World and has a versatile background ranging from commercial TV/radio, improvisational comedy, musical theatre and opera in California, Florida and finally coming back home to the Midwest.

As everyone knows, opposites attract. So too, do the voices and musical styles of Field & James. They fuse together, in perfect harmony, two styles so completely different and yet so alike they become one when the artists are together. They complete each other. Both are standout musicians and songwriters, but when they combine their talents, I know you will agree, the sum is – indeed -- even greater than the parts.

Elegant, tasteful, honest, and mature
This CD is very nice musical art indeed. Elegant, tasteful, honest, mature, delicate and moving. Very well performed and recorded, done live in the studio at the best studio in town, Randy's Recording (www.randysrecording.com). Well worth a listen!
