Album Notes

Chris and Ray had their first music session on March 9, 2007. The next morning Ray\'s wife had their first kid, 1 week early. Overall a great weekend. Around October Chris and Ray started seriously considering writing tunes together. They wrote a couple songs that got them very excited about the concept of forming a band. After much discussion and a few microbrewed beers they decided to invite others to play. Chris cleaned out his basement and hung some rugs. Ray strung up the obligatory Christmas Lights and a practice space was created. In January, they found their drummer in Matt Snow. Pat Garland joined the band in that month as well, taking on duties as piano player. In late March Jeff Steblea took over as bass player. Fiesta Brava was finally complete.

The first show happened on April 4, 2008. The band had a great time, and more shows followed while the band completed work on its first CD. The resulting EP, Ship to Shore, was released on July 18,2008. It contains six original compositions composed by Chris and Ray, and arranged by the band.

Indie Rock Done Right

This album has been on heavy rotation for me since I purchased it. Each track stands on its own merit as a solid entry in the annals of good music. There is a nice variety here, in this compact release, with song tempos ranging from frenetic to luxuriously gentle. Chris and Ray each have distinct vocal styles that can either stand at the front of a track or work in the background to add a delicious harmony to the music. I often measure the quality of an album by the number of times it gives me goosebumps. Ship to Shore gives me braille arms often enough that I know it is atypically good. These guys are masters of the musical breakdown. In sum, if you want to experience a rich, warm, literate and emotive type of indie rock, then you should download this album and give it prominence in your current playlist. I have a feeling it will stay there.

The songs sound really good, and their live show is amazing. Really great stuff. I can\'t wait to hear what their full length will sound like!

This album is really good, a nice start for a local band! They remind me of Guster a bit, and the guitar solos are really nice. They sound awesome live, too- I want to hear more!!
