Biography
Fig for a Kiss: Innovative, sensual, playful, rocking multi-instrumentalists.

Fig for a Kiss is an exciting new trio with a fresh approach to Celtic music. Their first full-length CD, Fallen Leaf, has been getting rave reviews, even before the official release date in early 2006. In their songs and up-beat fiddle tunes (whether original or ancient) they have succeeded in fusing folk, classical, pop music and even storytelling, with reverence, playfulness and infectious energy. The result is a lush and intriguing acoustic sound.

The band consists of Sahra Featherstone, Duncan Cameron, and Joe Phillips, all of whom are accomplished multi-instrumentalists and singers who have collaborated with many acclaimed bands. Sahra is Fig for a Kiss's lead fiddler, whose natural sense of improvisation and understated power is also evident in her playing of the Celtic harp and tin whistle, and in her singing. Duncan, who sings and plays guitar, bouzouki, tin whistles, bodhrán, and fiddle, is the main composer of the group, with a great sense of arrangement and accompaniment. Joe transcends all expectations for double bass and guitar with his virtuosity and attentivenss. Together, these three musicians create a captivating listening experience, rich with expression, joyfulness and soul.

A growing legion of fans across Ontario has already witnessed Fig's dynamic performances at festivals, concert halls, dance events and schools. The band's influences are as varied as the audiences they draw, and can be heard in what each member brings to the group.

Sahra won the Auleen Theriault Young Tradition award at the Goderich Celtic Festival. Joe was principal bassist with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. Duncan has repeatedly been a featured artist at The Toronto Festival of Storytelling. Duncan and Joe collaborated in the Pierre Schryer Band, whose CD "Blue Drag" was nominated for a Juno Award in 2004 for "Best Roots/Traditional Album of the Year." Both Sahra and Duncan have solo CDs that have been widely acclaimed. All three members of the group have long been in demand for studio recording work, teaching, and as side musicians for national and international touring.

Fig for a Kiss is very proud of their new CD, Fallen Leaf, and is eager to share their music and excitement with audiences everywhere.

Beautiful traditional music with a fresh interpretation, yet not straying too far from the pure drop. Infused in the music is a certain raw energy that is irresistible.
