Fighting Shy is the result of a collaboration between a New Jersey-born bass player with a penchant for reggae and The Dead (Jon Simmons); a gum-chewing, Pearl Jam-loving northern Californian rock drummer (Jenelle Greninger); and a Midwestern singer-songwriter raised on the Beatles (Drew Dillhunt).
The Seattle trio plays melody-driven, song-oriented rock layered with well-placed harmonies, intelligent lyrics, and driving bass lines. Their eclectic sound is difficult to pigeonhole, but has been most adeptly described as “The Velvet Undergound meets Pedro the Lion with a surf twinge.”
“Tiny Horses” was recorded primarily in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle at Creamsicle Studios, the selfsame studio where Seattle-based outfit The Airresponsibles recorded their now infamous album “Where the Grass Grows Green and the Girls Run Free.”
Fighting Shy’s first full-length release is peppered with guest appearances by notable local musicians Michael Spaly
of Creeping Time, Lance Hofstad of Estocar, Eric Webb and Chad Benson of The Airresponsibles, and artist and performer Jed Dunkerley.
