notes
Native Ohioan turned Seattle transplant, Holly started playing guitar in July of 1999 when, during her first east coast tour, her guitar player broke his hip before the first show on the tour.
Holly took his guitar, learned three chords, and finished her tour, finding that it was a blessing in disguise that her good friend was in excruciating pain.
In her first year on the acoustic music circuit, Holly was wowing national audiences at listening rooms from the Bitter End and Living Room in NYC, to Club Passim in Boston, to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in 2000, to the Tractor Tavern and Summer Nights at the Pier in Seattle.
She has toured extensively throughout the US, greeting fans everywhere with her refreshing style of hybrid folk and blues, usually with her young children in tow.
Dream in Red is Holly's second record, and was produced by Evan Brubaker, and graced by musicians Dan Tyack (Bill Frisell/Danny Barnes), Keith Lowe (Fiona Apple/Duffy Bishop), Jonathan Kingham, Sean Halley, and Kym Tuvim.

solid cd
author: underground williethe music has depth and a soulful and heartfelt feeling about it. will get a lot of play.
brand new favourite
author: LaszloGod, what is this music? Is this acoustic folk, no, angry folk like Ani, no, acoustic indie folk-rock, no, folk-blues-jazz, no. This is all in one and in originally Holly Figueroa style! Fantastic drum and bass structure in high fidelity sound quality with acoustic and electric guitars back Holly’ fine vocal. I really love this masterpiece and uforgettable music. Ani Di Franco is "Not A Pretty Girl", but Holly Figueroa is "A Really Pretty Woman". :-) This is my first Holly' CD, but not the last one!
I can't stop listening to it!
author: SarahI had never heard Holly before and bought the cd based on notes from some of the other artists I listen to. The cd has a few songs that I really love and can't stop listening. Overall, a great pick.
addictive
author: Deb from PhillyI really enjoyed this cd, the more I played it, the more addicted I grew. The songs are powerful as is the voice of Holly. I listen to it at home, take it to work and play it in the car and I haven't grown tired of it yet!!

Think Jonatha Brooke meets Dave Matthews. The 2nd CD from the founder of Indiegrrl. Introspective songwriting and lush production. Haunting folk storytelling, emotionally charged a cappella, bluesy semi acoustic alt-rock, and down and dirty blues.
Authentically wonderful!
author: AnnaHolly Figueroa's songs really grab my emotions! This album is engaging. The song lyrics are intelligent, intuitive, and good to sing with. I was given this CD--I knew a couple of songs but hearing the whole album really made the difference, it's an amazing album. And it keeps on growing on me. I would really urge you to give it a try, she is some songwriter.
Great sound and lyrics
author: LisaI got this CD from CD Baby along with another order. All I can say is wow. I really enjoy her sound, and especially her lyrics. I'd like to see her live someday.

Holly Figueroa's edgy sound clones Alanis Morissette's a bit. In this case, that's a very good thing. There's a palpable and intense sensuality in Figueroa's vocals. The first time I was sonically manhandled by the lurching-ahead track "Here" was appropriately in my car CD player... its effect was a sweaty and heavenly uneasiness that had me losing control on the curves and missing the clutch pedal. Figueroa shares not only Ani DiFranco's occasional in-your-face brashness, but also DiFranco's natural rhythmic feel with the acoustic guitar, a talent fortuitously let out the door when serendipity knocked. As a novice in 1999, Figueroa was forced to learn three guitar chords that would serve best to accompany her vocals in the three days prior to her first major festival and tour after her band's guitar player broke his hip. Talk about a quick study. She makes songwriting look that easy too, traversing genres from alternative ("Inside Out") to blues ("She") to folk ("Turn Around") with a confident facility. But it's Figueroa's unique vocal style that is on a true trajectory to seek you out, grab you and demand your rapt attention. "Dream in Red" is mercurial in mood, spanning a spectrum between irreverent and thoughtful, but is uniform in one aspect. It's all excellent music.
This is a great addition...
author: Jessica - ChicagoI don't have a huge CD collection, let alone buy a lot of CDs. Mainly I am picky. But I do buy plenty from CDBaby and this one is a keeper and so far a fav of mine. It is just good, plain and simple.
You think this cd is good? Try seeing her live........
author: acoustic junkieAlmost all the good stuff has already been said about how yummy this cd is, so I will just say this, out of all the cds I've bought in the past 6 months (indie or not) and I've bought about 25.... it's the one I still listen to most and just dont get tired of. I continue to be mesmerized by her live performances..... you will be too!

soulful and skilled...
author: Karen Reynolds, Host-writer's Block, Wdvx-www.wdvx.comThe CD is great...the writing has wonderful phrasing and structure, the arrangements are interesting and funky without being overdone and trying tooo hard to sound 'cool'. Your voice captures the attention of the listener immediately, and is soulful and skilled.
a very personal, yet inclusive album
author: West Coast Performer Magazine...her lyrics and tunes are well crafted, socially relevant, and personally revealing. They stimulate the imagination through heart and mind. The resulting effort is a very personal, yet inclusive album.
