Filacteria is one of the most original and identifiable bands in the genre in Puerto Rico and Latin America. Their songs run the gamut from catchy and melodic to extremely technical and aggressive. This versatility allows the band to cater to a very diverse public. The band's live show is a powerful musical and spiritual release. Filacteria live is an intense, dynamic and captivating experience. This combination has earned Filacteria hundreds of followers, not only in PR, but in Latin America as well.
In 2001 they recorded their fisrt CD, "Filacteria". This work summarized the band's musical career from almost its inception (1993). Their first single, "Ciego", became immensely popular, not only in PR, but across Latin America thanks to the Internet. "Ciego" became one of the 5 top metal songs in the Latin American lists in mp3.com and had over 300 downloads from the band's site, www.filacteria.com.
The band was featured on radio, newspaper and magazine interviews. Their first CD received favorable reviews in several websites on PR and abroad (pulsorock.com - PR, oberol.com - Guatemala; zonaunderground.com - Costa Rica; christianpunks.com - USA, frecuenciarock.com - PR, etc.). As word spread of Filacteria's groundbreaking work, they began to assemble an international following. Filacteria has already performed in Brasil, the Dominican Republic and in the US Mainland, receiving rave reviews in every stop.
In 2005, the band released its sophomore effort, "Paz Interior". This record shows a Filacteria that had grown by leaps and bounds, not only musically but also spiritually. The lyrics are both challenging and inspiring. The record can be seen as musical storytelling: a person wishes to escape his/her inner confusion and desperation, thus embarking on a spiritual journey to gain true peace of mind. The music is daring and influences are diverse: Meshuggah, Soulfly, Nevermore, Puya, Hatebreed, Testament, Anthrax, etc.
Filacteria is currently working in their third album, which will most surely win over more fans than ever...stay tuned...
