"Rock with girth and more hooks than a meat packing plant. Guitars, keyboards, soulful vocals and layered harmonies are all supported by a deep groove that kicks the seat of your pants as it purrs in your ear." Dick Cheney, Vice President, United States

Album Notes

Finneus is a four piece Chicago area based band whose sound, while maintaining its own focus and identity, convincingly runs the gamut of every popular music subgenre heard on the radio today.

With a strong following of support at home, two independently released full-lengths, numerous road trips in the upper Midwest, college/specialty airplay and an award winning website, Finneus successfully continues to embrace the DIY spirit as they entertain and expand their audience.

Members of Finneus have performed/toured or recorded with among others Paris Delane (frontman of platinum recording artist Sonia Dada), LUCE, Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame and bass guitar legend Jerry Jemmott, Betty Dylan, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Sam Cockrell and Kevon Smith (Buddy Miles Band).

Finneus’ 2006 independent release 'Superstar and the Ballerina' is a deftly performed testament to their ability to write tight, catchy arrangements spanning the genres of hard rock, soul, alt-rock, emo and americana, all with a pop sensibility. The album's briskly paced ten song, 38 minute running time is indication that this is one band that knows it’s way around a well-crafted tune. From the pile driven guitar sound of Disenchanted and Four Walls, to pop feel-gooders like Song for You and Gentle Giant, to the combat folk of Ballad of a Stupid Person to the R&B influenced Inventing Heaven, ‘Superstar’ has something for everyone. Recorded at the world class Studio Chicago, the album was co-produced with Gene Wolf (Spirit, Ides of March, R.E.O. Speedwagon, Universal Records, IEP Record Group).

Humbly describing themselves as the least connected band in Chicago, the Illinois Entertainer, Chicagoland’s most widely read music publication put it another way: "Finneus rules the undiscovered!"

REVIEWS

Superstar & The Ballerina is a top notch rock album.

This year the band came out with a new album. This album was supposed to be even better than their debut album, Translucent. I couldn't wait to find out. And I wasn't disappointed. The new album is top notch. But the album is much more than just great rock music. The styling of the songs mixes rock with soul, pop and Americana for a terrific sound. Disenchanted is the first song on the album. It begins as a hard hitting rock song. When the vocals hit, the pace slows down just a bit. There is some great guitar backing the vocals. The second song is Song For You. It is a cool, moderate rock piece about not trying to prove anything other than providing a song for you to listen to. This song has some elements that remind me of early Styx . Inventing Heaven is about my favorite song on the whole album. It is a subtle piece with fantastic keyboard work, guitars and drums. The vocals are strong and distinctive. Four Walls is a terrific rock anthem. Subtle vocals are supported by super guitar. Ballad of A Stupid Person is kind of a mixture. It sort of reminded me of Hootie and the Blowfish. Gentle Giant starts out with a big build up like a huge rock anthem. Then it slows down with understated vocals. Once again the backing music is great. This is a very good rock anthem. Gold and Glory kicks in a bit like mixture of Mediterranean music and a Led Zepplin tune. It buzzes along with strong vocals and interesting background music. Some of the guitar seems to be a definite throwback to Zep and other classic rockers. The Story has some very good acoustic guitar. Liquid Spirit is a killer tune that also sounds like it pays tribute to classic rock. There is some excellent organ styled music in it. The last song on the album is Profound. It brings forth some harsh, throaty sounding vocals. The guitar is great on the song as is the keyboards. The end of the song has keyboard work that reminded me of Three Dog Night. Finneus has been around the Chicago rock scene for over 10 years. But they are beginning to get more than just regional exposure. With this new album, Finneus should be able to garner fans on a national and even international level. As I said before, Superstar & The Ballerina is a top notch rock album. You only have to listen to one song off the album to realize just how good Finneus is.
