Album Notes

\"Rising,\" the 4th and latest release from Southwest Ohio based Irish band FinTan, showcases both their new 6 member line-up and their high-powered style. FinTan brings their live performance energy to this masterfully mixed disk, showing once again how they seamlessly blend traditional Irish songs into roaring tunes with their unbeatable combo of strong vocals, tight harmonies, and amazing instrumentals. \"Rising\" delivers contemporary sound and energy that gets music fans excitedly clapping their hands and stomping their feet, without ever sacrificing the roots of the traditional Irish music sound.

At the center of the band\'s sound is Karen Wohlafka, whose vocal style revitalizes old classics like Tell Me Ma and Molly Malone into new listener favorites, while songs like Bonny Broom and Foggy Dew highlight her depth and singing power. Bryan Klopfenstein\'s lively fiddle virtuosity is a strong part of every song, but takes the medium to a new edge in Bonny Broom and P for Paddy. Mark Reinemann\'s whistle brings a new instrument to this recording session, dynamically linking FinTan to the Irish traditional sound. His talent on the concertina is showcased in Skellig and Rocky Road to Dublin, giving listeners a glimpse into FinTan\'s evolving style. Phil Reed (Bodhran), Tamara Griggs (String Bass) and Pat Savelli (Guitar) round out the group to create the band\'s driving rhythms.

In addition to the more familiar classic Irish songs and tunes, FinTan has included three of its own popular original songs on the CD – Skellig, A Thousand Miles or More and The Highlands Are Still My Home. These original tunes have become often requested fan favorites, and reflect the \"classic\" traditional Irish music sensibility that forms their signature sound.
