Album Notes

We like to rock. Sometimes it's heavy, sometimes it's laid back. We find it interesting to mix our music with many and any style that jumps out at us during the writing process. We'll dabble in Gothic creepiness, Jazzy grooves, dropped-D moshiness (I made that up), or some down home Gospel. Anything, as long as it tells the particular story we have in mind. We just don't want to fit into a genre because genres are like straight jackets, they tie up your arms so you aren't able to scratch where you itch.

"What Mother" is our first album as a group. We strove to create a collection of unique textures, so that the first time listener would have no trouble distinguishing one song from the next. Hopefully you will listen and enjoy.

Love & Rock,
Firebox

One of the best unsigned bands in Kansas City
author: Joshua Chaikin
I first saw Firebox playing at a bar in Lawrence back in October of 2004, since then I've been attending as many shows as I can. Though they primarily do covers at their shows, their original material is solid, with driving music and well written lyrics, just listen to "Under My Breath." By stark contrast, "Blue" is two minute musical interlude, with a simple yet haunting melody. This album is a wonderful compilation and shows just how vast the spectrum of talent of Firebox really is. I strongly encourage you to purchase the CD and see them live if you can.
