Firefall Stretch Out
author: David Eade

I was expecting this live reunion album to be a trawl through Firefall's greatest hits, but it's much more. Jock Bartley, the present band's only original member, leads the "new" line-up (they've been playing together for many years now) and original members Larry Burnett, David Muse and Mark Andes, through lively and extended versions of songs that will be immediately recognisable as regular radio fare, some less familiar album tracks, and an excellent new song, "Walk More Softly". It's great to hear these songs been given a real workout, and I have to say that the "stars" here are guitarist Bartley, whose playing is exemplary, and multi-instrumentalist Muse, whose sax and flute solos are simply stunning. It's nice to hear Burnett singing with the band again, even if it is just a one-off, and regular vocalist Steven Weinmeister is now well-versed at singing former chief songwriter Rick Roberts' parts. Roberts was there on the night, but too ill to perform. A glance at his photo on the CD booklet may give you a sad clue as to his present state of health. All in all, a must for Firefall fans or simply people who love good music. Bring on the DVD!
