The North Texas band Fishing for Comets is made up of Camille Cortinas (vocals/guitar), Sam Romero (guitar), Eric Swanson (mandolin/bass/vocals), Aaron Thomas (drums), and Gary Rivers (bass/melodica/percussion).
Although, as a duo, Cortinas and Romero have been writing together since 2002, this latest incarnation of their work has added new life and textures to the pallet. At the 2005 Dallas Observer Music Awards the band won the award for Best Folk Acoustic act and received a nomination for Best Female Vocalist (Camille Cortinas).
In 2006, the band will see the release of its first full length album and original music written for a documentary by Joe Willix and the Coppell House of Dance entitled " 5, 6, 7, 8...A Year in the Life of the Coppell House of Dance".
Harder Beat columnist Wayne Ansell said it best, “The sweet, melodic sounds of Fishing For Comets could be therapy for the sad, or medicine for the downhearted. If the good vibes emitting from this acoustic-rock group could be bottled, it would surely be the cure for something”.
Fishing For Comets performs energetically and has developed the reputation as a crowd-pleaser. In the words of Cindy Chaffin of Texasgigs.com, “This band is sheer excellence, so book’em, buy their music, go see’em live… You’ll thank me in the morning”.

whoa...it did make me remember the good and the bad...
author: Sam (en busca de RE)
Well, since my rilo kiley fix was really lacking after that last cd (didnt dug it totally), i was looking for something more fresh. Soooo i tried fishing for comets and well, i just cant get enough of them! I wanted to go and see them at austin, but mexico city is a long way to austin.
This cd made me remember some good times i had with a girl i met on a far far country (at least far from me). From the first notes of lydia (part one), which made me felt how i was the moment i said goodbye to this girl, to a very cathartic moment i had during still below you (the moment some truths were exchanged)...well, this cd was like a soundtrack to go once more down memory lane.
So, in short, i love the simple but sweet music and i am truly mesmerized by Camille Cortinas voice. Its one part haunting, one part heartbroken honesty and all parts feeling. Lovely!
