Album Notes

WESLEY FISHWICK is well regarded in the heartland, and indeed nationally, as a concert pianist, most recently embarking on a concert tour performing three of Beethoven's greatest piano sonatas and presenting a corresponding series of discussions about the music.
Wes began his musical studies at age five with his father, William Fishwick, the noted British composer and organist. Wesley's primary teacher was pianist Mischa Kottler a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory and himself a student of Emil von Sauer. Other teachers and coaches include renowned pianists Van Cliburn, Eugene List, and Theodore Letvin.
Fishwick is the winner of the Grinnell Piano Competition and the Young Keyboard Artist's International Competition. As a composer, he has been awarded many commissions and prizes including the Ithaca College International Choral Composition Competition, New York. Mr. Fishwick also participated in the 1974 Tchaikovsky Competition, Moscow.
A pedagogue himself, Wesley has taught piano both privately and in university settings. He currently maintains a studio of private piano students.

BEETHOVEN: THREE ROMANTIC PIANO SONATAS was recorded live in performance at St. Martin's as part of the Marine City Concert Series. These three sonatas contain the romantic essence as well as the monumental structural genius that typifies Beethoven's compositional style. Mr. Fishwick's performance on this CD has been hailed as both lyrical and brilliant. "Stunning" "Spectacular" and "Magnificent."

Exceptional recording of exceptional piano literature

Lyrical, yet exciting; bombastic, yet introspective -- this recording captures the brilliant duality of Beethoven's writing, performed beautifully by pianist Wesley Fishwick. The extraordinary emotion conveyed by Fishwick through his performance is amazing, and is equaled by the sheer technical mastery necessary to play any of Beethoven's works. Mr. Fishwick's program, consisting of the Pathetique Sonata, the Moonlight Sonata, and the Appasionata Sonata, is well-rounded, and historically based in the progression of Beethoven's writing style, each sonata displaying tendencies of both Classicism and Romanticism, and evolving more toward the latter. The live aspect of the CD is excellent, allowing the listener to feel very connected to both performer and audience, in a concert setting unequaled by studio recordings. Highly recommended.
