Five Point Plan's authentic brand of funky R&B has made them favorites at venues from John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Room to Riffage.com on the web. Now they bring their act to the airwaves with their self-titled debut and the soulful single "It Don't Mean Nothin'." Young vocalist Latrice Barnett is the real deal, she has a beautiful pure voice with a hypnotic delivery. The groove of Carter and Cruz is true, David Metzner splashes colors with his guitar, and Jordan Glasgow adds a tasty keyboards solo. Spin it and you won't be disappointed.

...Five Point Plan laid down a spare, tasty groove, which stood above the crop of artists we looked at this month. The spirits of Brand New Heavies and Erykah Badu hover throughout "Live Today," but the group avoids sounding obviously derivative by sticking to their own straight-ahead funk sensibility, solidly anchored by drummer Tim Carter.
   Keyboardist Jordan Glasgow, like everyone in the band, knows his job description well - keep it in the pocket, support the song, don't upstage Latrice (Barnett, vocalist). Though Glasgow comps unobtrusively, interlocking seamlessly with David Metzner's snaky guitar, his Wurlitzer's thick tone and the delicious voicings he contributes are the butter that turns the plain grits into something truly yummy... It's refreshing to hear a band in this genre that seems more interested in playing their songs, as opposed to playing their instruments.

Haven't heard anything like that since the 1st Brand New Heavies.  The style of FPP. is what BNH were in the early 90's.  I loved it.  There will no doubt be some timeless hits in the acid jazz realm off this CD.  You guys need to tour on the East Coast.
